Re: *~*Relactation Weekly Checkin*~*

  • ugh i wish i had better news for you ladies on my progress however its well NOT there, its been a VERY lazy week andi didnt have the desire to go shopping let alone pumping, but Sunday i have decided is my buckle down day and if im going to do this im doing it. if not then i know i did what was best for sam and i and ill still be here for encouragement for other ladies.

  • you ladies are amazing, good luck
  • at some point you have to do whats best for you and your baby,i know you were doing awesome at one point, sucks you let it go but if it becomes too stressful its not worth it, i wish everyone could relactate as easy as i did, but for some it just doesnt work! atleast sam got your milk as much as she did, my lactation consultant told me that even 2 ounces of breastmilk is beneficial to a baby, what if u aimed at just getting a nighttime bottle for h er, and dont set a goal to be back where you were?

as for my progress im staying pretty consistant at about thirteen ounces a day, keagans belly is growing so he is drinking more at night so im working on increasing just a little but overall im really happy with where im at. i did start keagan on whole milk in his sippy cup, but hes not drinking alot and still getting most of his nutrients from the breastmilk!

good luck to everyone this week!,

  • Hi Ladies!

My daughter, Laila, was breastfed for the first 2 -3 weeks and then she was having latching issues. Instead of seeing an LC, I gave up and have regretted that decision ever since. She is now almost 2 months old and on formula.

I feel incredibly guilty knowing that I gave up so quickly and have decided to relactate. So far, I've been pumping every 2 hours, sometimes 3, since I am back at work. I've been taking fenugreek and am waiting on my domperiodone to show up in the mail.

I've tried to get L to latch but she just screams :[

I'm so excited to be joining you ladies!

  • that is actually a really good goal holly, just the 2oz, she only ever drinks that just before bed anymore so i might just do that and not to stress myself out.

13oz is still alot which is awesome i keep telling my self any amount is good.

  • I also forgot to mention that my goal for this week is to wake up in the middle of the night to pump and do some skin to skin.

ill add you to the list, so glad you are joining us.

i got my daughter back to nusing (for a week before my supply took at hit apparently my boobs like pump better then baby go figure eh) when she was 5 months old, she did scream and throw a fit for the first couple days. just keep trying the more you try she will get the hint. even if its for comfort nursing.  i have my story on my blog (although i just looked and i havent updated in a WHILE) but it has the first 2 months almost by the day for us relactating.

any question or anything you are more then welcome to contact me anytime. ill help the best i can.

good luck and i cant wait to hear about your progress

  • I just posted a question about this on 0-3 then I saw this post.

I am really curious how relactation works, I stopped breastfeeding on Jan. 4 because my son has a heart defect and was put on a high calorie diet.  I could have pumped and added formula to my milk, but I was having really low production so I just gave up.  Now that he is on formula he is always projectile vomiting and the doctors say there's nothing wrong and we just need to feed him slower.  Anyway, I really am considering trying relactation because we never had these issues on breast milk.  I just don't know how or where to start, and I would have to exclusively pump so I can beef up calories of my milk.  I would love some advice.

i would start by pumping every two hours to get simulation going. and make sure you pump at least every two hours until you get a supply back. you might also look into getting Domperidone (its what most including myself use) to help increase milk production. also i used a lactation blend herbal pill i got online.

i have a very simple Evenflo double electric pump and a single mipump and i manged to do very well with them (my supply tanked again after i went back to nursing at around 5 months now im working at getting something back again). however it is recommend that you get a hospital grade pump (rental from the hospital) even though it isnt a MUST have.

also reading my blog might help you get started, i havent updated recently on whats going on but all the stuff from the early days is there that might be very helpful i know it was for some of the other ladies.

and of course you are always welcome to ask any questions at anytime. ill do my best to give you an answer.

just so you know i do the checkin every friday. so keep us updated on your process (if you like to be added to the list of mommys just let me know your babies name)

  • Please add me too.  I posted on the check in from last week (but very late).  I've been attempting to re-lactate since 1/10.  We had a set back last week when I, DH and DS were all very sick and I didn't stick to my pumping schedule for a couple of days.  But I'm back on the wagon now.  I've also just started using fenugreek.  I get NO milk whatsoever when I pump, and I haven't really seen any changes showing progress at all.  I think I was noticing some new fullness before my illness, but that is gone now.  So I'm just back to pumping frequently again hoping to see some fruits for my labor soon.  Just for some background info, I breastfed DS (it was a struggle, and started supplementing due to Jaundice, extreme weight loss, and latch issues early on) for the first 6 weeks.  Then I didn't breastfeed for about 8 weeks before starting to relactate.   I have NO milk now.  I decided to re-lactate due to DS showing some interest suddenly.  He was fussy and seemed like he wanted to nurse, so we tried it and he latched on successfully for about five minutes (even though I had no milk)!  So I guess the instinct is still there.  My decision to stop breastfeeding never really set well with me, so I decided to give this a shot.  It's a little discouraging to be nearly three weeks into it and not seeing any progress, but I've committed myself to this for at least eight weeks, the length of time I went between breastfeeding and relactating.  So if after eight weeks I don't see progress, I'll decide whether to continue.  I really hope to see some progress before long.  Just a drop would be nice, to have some reassurance that I can make milk again.

Looking forward to the coming weeks with you ladies!

  • I remember from your post last week u were against taking dom and reglan because you were scared of side effects? i pumped for three weeks and got nothing out until i started the domperidone. i have a history of depression and anxiety and weaned myself off anti depressants when i was pregnant, i never went back on them. i havent felt any different emotionally while taking the domperidone, maybe u should give it a try? if you do start to feel side effects you could always stop taking it, but it might give you just the boost your body needs! you can also try takingg other herbs such as blessed thistle and goats rue and there are some herbal teas and cookies that are said to help boost your milk supply. also make sure you are eatng and drinking plenty. hopefully you have some better luck by next week!

Hey there im so glad you decided to join us. try and put Eli to your breast as much as possible with your pumping to see if that helps. even if its only for 5 mins. i would also suggest Domperidone to help as well (all the links are in the original post) it helped me and i believe everyone here is using it to help them. it is an option if you if you would go that route.

good luck and we are here for yah every step of the way

  • Thanks for the suggestions and encouragement!  I am considering taking Dom.  I think three weeks now is a good try without it, I think I probably do need it.  I've been on the fenugreek for several days and no sign of a change, either.  So maybe Dom would make a difference for me.
