Hi All,
Would love some input, my DH really wants to name our daughter to be Eva, however I am having issues with how people will say it. I would hate for her to always have to correct people for the rest of her life.
He wants it pronounced like Ava ( ie Eva Mendez versus Eva Longoria who is EEEva)
Do you think people would assume Eva with an E is said EEEVA not Ava?
Thanks for your input!

Re: How to pronounce Eva?
Yep, it's just what makes phonetic sense. Eva = EE-va and Ava = AA-va.
It would set her up for a lifetime of annoyance. Just spell it Ava, what's wrong with spelling it that way?

this. Love the name Ava
I'm Kristin and I STILL get Kristine pronunciation ALL.THE.TIME.
Spell it Eva, and pronounce it Eh-vah. So what? She's going to have to correct people. People butcher names all day everyday.

The daughter of my former boss is named Eva, but pronounced Ava. They do constantly have to correct people, but they don't seem bothered by it. It would drive me nuts because it seriously is every single day. The pronunciation they use is apparently the norm the father's culture (Hungarian).
BTW: It's a gorgeous name (either pronunciation).
This.

IT'S A GIRL!

I don't take one single minute for granted.
Eva = E-va in the USA
Eva = A-va in Germany
Where do you live? How often do you want to correct people? Both are ``correct`` pronounciations, but it depends on where you live.
thanks everyone, I dont know why he likes Eva so much better.. I keep telling him people will say it wrong and he doesnt seem to care. He just likes it with an E, he for some reason doesnt think it looks "right" with Ava (I think the double A bothers him) I dont really always understand his reasoning skills!
I am happy he wants to be so involved in her name, just was curious the general consensus of how it would be said... I agree I personally would find it rather annoying to always have to tell people, no its pronounced Ava, but its spelled Eva.
Unless your from a German- or Spanish-speaking background, definitely Ava.
People will assume Eva = eee-vuh in the U.S.
I'm also big on associations. Ava Gardner was a beautiful 40's screen siren. Eva Braun was Hitler's girlfriend. Their names are pronounced the same, but I know which one I'd rather be reminded of when I look at the name.
I'd say EEE-vah.
Beautiful name
I'm an Eva. EEEEEvah. but people still call me anything from Ava to Eh-vah (which i just don't get.)
Please do me a personal favor and spell it Ava if you want it to sound like Ava.
All your posts make me LOL lately.
And another vote that I'd guess "EEva" before "Ava"!
