Rectal temperature ?

It's pretty weird that I've never done this, I know. So the thermometer instructions say to use a water based lubricant, not vaseline... So what do I need to get? Do I seriously need to go buy some KY or astroglide or something, lol?

We always use vasoline. That's what our pedi told us to use anyway.

Ditto the others, we use Vaseline. I'm surprised a thermometer would require something else since most thermometers allow for vaseline use. I am thinking I would get a different thermometer.

Ours said the same thing so I bought one of those super mini bottles of astroglide haha but we've also used vaseline and both work. I dont know why they are so specific but it seems to work either way.

We use a probe cover on the thermometer and then Vaseline.  I'm guessing the need for water-based lubricant isn't necessarily based on the thermometer, but more likely the ability to read a true temp internally.  I'm no doctor, but that's what I'd guess the recommendation is for.........

But that being said, I've never had an issue with vaseline use.

Thanks ladies - this is what I ended up doing!  I was thinking they might say that because it would be harder to clean off afterwards if you used vaseline or something not water based
