Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

f/u appt. after D&C

I had my f/u appt yesterday with my obgyn. She said that everything came back normal in the pathology report from the D&C, so it was most likely one of those times where something didn't happen just right in the baby's development and I miscarried. I have another appt. in 4 weeks for my annual exam, then after that all I have to do is wait for AF and we can start TTC again! It was a difficult morning but I'm happy about being able to try again soon. It makes me feel hopeful for the future. : ) I was surprised during the appt. that my dr. didn't order any bloodwork or do any kind of physical exam. I don't know if it's because she plans to do it at the next appt, or if it's just not common practice for that office. I just see on here a lot that many women have their levels tracked down to 0, and I'm wondering why my dr. didn't want to do this. Anyone else not have any bloodwork after a m/c?

On a side note, since I've been having such a hard time this week, DH decided to book us a room in Chicago and we're going away for the weekend! I'm hoping this will help us both relax and get our minds off of everything for a couple of days. Smile

Re: f/u appt. after D&C

  • You're raising a lot of the same questions I have - my D&C f/u is on Monday. I called the office this week to see if I should come in prior to the office visit to get blood work done, since I'd seen so many people here say their doctors followed the numbers to zero. So the nurse with whom I spoke said the doctor would decide if I needed any more blood work or an additional u/s, and if he wanted to proceed, we'd schedule an additional f/u to Monday. The thought of another u/s is really hard to think about, but I guess if it helps establish our readiness to TTC again soon, I'll do it.

Your trip to Chicago sounds like just what you and DH need. I think doing something to get your mind off of the immediate sadness is a great idea. My DH and I were getting into house-hunting when we found out we were expecting, so we really dove into that about a week after the m/c. It helped give us something exciting to focus on and get excited about, so that helped. But Chicago will be fabulous - so much to see, do, and eat there - enjoy yourselves!

  • My dr. as well didn't follow my levels down to 0.  I took a HPT last week and it was still positive.  I took one again this past tuesday and the second line was very faint.  I had to get some b/w done yesterday to see if my platelet count had gone up and I ask the dr to add labwork for my HCG levels.  I am still waiting to hear back.  Still spotting though from D&C from a month ago so it probably isn't to 0 yet.

As for going to CHicago, that sounds wonderful.  My husband and I just went there last week and it was the best overnight getaway (even though we couldn't have sex yet).  It took my mind off of everything and let loose.  Have lots of fun!

  • I have had 2 miscarriages, I was with a different OB/gyn practice for each one and neither one of the OBs followed my numbers down to 0.  They didn't order any bloodwork following the miscarriages.  The first was an early loss, natural miscarriage (with meds) and the second was a late 1st trimester missed miscarriage with a D&C.
