Where to go in Pittsburg?

A friend of mine is headed to Pittsburg in 2 weeks.  She is going on a romantic weekend and would like some ideas of places to go (eat, entertainment, etc).  I know she is staying right downtown.  Any advice?

Re: Where to go in Pittsburg?

  • There is a great new restaurant downtown in Gateway Center called Elements - mostly local ingredients and the chef makes charcuterie in house.  www.elementscuisine.com

Rivers Casino has an AWESOME brunch

The Andy Warhol Museum is nice, or just walking around in the Strip District.

Riding up to Mount Washington on the incline is a very touristy thing to do

  • The Melting Pot is a great place to go for a romantic dinner with fondue and dimmed lighting. The food is so good.

  • Going to the Strip District to shop is a fun way to spend a Saturday morning.  I suggest eating breakfast at JoJo's (100 24th Street,Pittsburgh, PA 15222) then parking at St Patrick-St Stanislaus Parish which is right down the street.  From there, walk up and down Penn Ave and Smallman Street.  Lots of fresh markets, street food and history.  Its a great way to spend a morning!

  • I live right in town, so I know seriously every restaurant in the city it feels like!  haha.  Depending on her budget, here are my suggestions for the best restaurants in town (since I'm sure they'll want to walk somewhere and not drive):  Capital Grille (for steaks), The Original Fish Market (for seafood), or Tambellinis (pasta).   IF they do want to drive a bit or take a short ride, have them hit up Tamari (Lawrenceville) or go up to LeMont (mt. washington - the best restaurant in the city.... seriously).   Also, definitely suggest them to do Sunday brunch at the Grand Concourse.   It's about $30/pp but sooo worth it!  Piano player, culinary stations, freshest food!   Get a seat in the back room w/ views of the rivew.   Reservations suggested.    Opens at 10am.   Bossa Nova on 7th makes the best ***/mocktails in the city!   Also, there are no SUnday matinees right now, so if they want to hit up a show, they'll have to do it at night.   The box office is on the corner of 7th and Penn.   Going to the strip is a great idea, if it's nice weather.   Cute shops (Pgh Pottery, Fudgie Wudgie, etc.) I would not suggest JoJos' at all.... go to DeLuca's instead.    You'll think I'm nuts for suggesting them to go to Sat breakfast and wait in line, but it's the best, greasiest spoon this side of the MS!   It's been profiled on multiple tv channels.   Cash only tell them!   Hope that helps.
