how to get rid of a fever

Of course the the thermometer just broke yesterday so I can't check it. But I know he has a fever, he is burning up & saying he is freezing even though it is 70 degrees in here and he has pjs and 3 blankets over him. Anyone have any tips to help reduce a fever? I gave him medicine but he still feels like he is way to hot. He is 4 and should be asleep by now but this is not making bedtime easy :/

Re: how to get rid of a fever

  • What did you give him (tylenol or motrin) and are you sure you are up to date on his correct dose?  In the past, when DS1 has had a stubborn fever, I have doubled up on Tylenol and Motrin (they work on different parts of the body/brain so they won't "OD")  So, for example, I'd give him Motrin at 6pm,tylenol at 9pm, Motrin at 12pm(alternate every 3 hours so motrin is always given every 6).  Also throw him in a cool bath.  GL!  Poor thing, hope he feels better today!

  • Strip him down. Those clothes and blankets aren't helping. Ds sleeps in only a pull up whenever he gets north of 103. We alternate between tylenol and motrin every 3 hours (even though our pediatric has since stopped recommending to parents to do that).
