Preemies

hi! introducing myself

I gave birth to my second little girl this morning - she is IUGR and I had a c-section at 34 weeks.  She is 2lbs 12oz and 15 inches long.  Because I had a csection I've only been able to see her twice but I am totally blown away by how tiny she is.  Because of her size they're treating her more like a 30-weeker.  Its so overwhelming going down to the NICU - she has an IV in her umblical cord, so I can't snuggle with her :(  It just all feels so surreal right now - I know she is getting the best care in this NICU - but I can't help but feel at fault for not getting her further.

Anyhoo - just wanted to say hello.  Looking forward to spending some time with all the amazing mamas here.

Re: hi! introducing myself

  • Congrats!  I had a 30 weeker who was 2lb 5oz.  I am also from MA too.  What hospital are you at?  I was at the Brigham.  I now have a healthy and happy 18 month old.  This is a great board.  Ask any questions you may have.

  • congrats and welcome!  I hope LO is home soon!
  • Congratulations on the birth of your daughter!  My daughter also had IV's in her umbilical cord for the first week of her life.  Keep us updated and don't hesitate to ask questions.  This is a great board.  Hope your NICU stay is short and uneventful!

P.S. I know it's hard, but try not to beat yourself up about her early arrival.

  • Congrats!

As PP said, don't beat yourself up for her coming early. You did everything you could and it's not your fault. I felt the same way when I had my daughter at 34 weeks due to severe pre-e.

  • Welcome.  Hoping your little fighter stay in the NICU is short.  Like pp, don't beat yourself up about her coming early....just enjoy her being here now.
