I've used them before and get that you can make all different flavored coffees/teas/hot chocolates, but is that it? I'm fine making regular old coffee, using my cappuccino maker, brewing tea, or making hot chocolate. And aren't all the little cups wasteful? Is there something I'm missing? No offense to anyone who has one -- I know they are extremely popular, but I feel like this is the type of question I can ask her and not of my friends who are all excited that they just got one for Christmas. Thanks!
Re: Please explain the appeal of the Keurig
My parents have one it's great for them because they like the taste of different strengths of coffee and they can each make what they want. But it's ridiculously expensive (according to them) monthly for just coffee.
Ditto PP's. You don't have to use the k-cups. If you use the "reusable" cup they have, you can use your own coffee. If you do that, then it's not as expensive as people make it out to be.
DH and I do drink coffee, but only one cup. I find it wasteful to make a whole pot of coffee for a few cups.
I much prefer a french press - that's how we make our coffee, even though we have a Tassimo machine as well.
appeal = instant gratification.
I love my french press. We have a small one so I can easily make just one cup for me.

I agree - for me it's definitely the appeal of making only one cup. Mine was a gift from DH. He rarely drinks coffee but when he does he prefers flavored. I like very dark strong coffee and don't like flavors. So we can make our own individual cups and it works out nicely. I never drink decaf, but when MIL or my mom come over they enjoy drinking it. I can quickly make one single cup of decaf without having to make a whole pot of it, which is nice.
I like to drink coffee all day. I don't want to mess with making a fresh 2 cup pot five times a day. And I don't care if the little cups are wasteful and expensive. It keeps me happy:)
It would be a waste at our house since neither of us drink coffee. My tea pot is all I need!!
i can have french vanilla, my husband can have chocolate glazed donut -- withing 3 minutes.
we tend to drink coffee at different times.
i love being able to offer fresh coffee, tea, etc. to friends.
i have not gone to dunkin donuts or starbucks in the 3 weeks since we got it.
it's neat and tidy
I actually perk coffee. On the stove.
Two of my friends have the Keurig and they say they drink much more coffee now. I think that would be the case with me, too.
