Unique name or spelling?

Would you rather have a unique name or a normal, common name with a unique spelling? I think I would rather have a unique name. For me, it's easier to get used to a unique name on a person than it is a unique spelling of a common name. I guess a unique name irritates me less...LOL. I was just curious what you thought!

Re: Unique name or spelling?

  • I agree! I think misspelled names are awful.
  • Unique name.  Because I wouldn't want people assuming my parents were uneducated, as I usually assume when I see a "uniquely" spelled name.

  • Unique name that isn't impossible to spell :-)
  • A unique name (to me) is simply one that is unusual, but at the very least, a legitimate word.

A unique spelling to a common name = misspelled name.

There is no question that I would prefer a unique name.

  • Unique name with a proper spelling, hands down. I like to think of myself as a good speller and a made-up/incorrect spelling, I'm sure, would embarrass me no matter what my name was. I'd choose being named Apol?l?nia long before I'd agree to be named Mykinzeigh.
  • probably a unique name, unless the spelling wasn't THAT unique/crazy. example: i love aubrielle. i think it's pretty different. i also love emily, but don't like emmaleigh or anything like that.

  • Unique name! I hate seeing something like ZsarHhA that is pronounced sara... hahah

  • I would prefer a name that isn't super common but not beaten to death either.  My name is Courtney and I actually think it is perfect.  I also strongly dislike the 'alternate train wreck' spellings.  I actually saw Courtney spelled Kortni once I think my brain still hurts too.

  • Unique name for sure.

  • Unique name rather than unique spelling.

For example, I'd rather be named Apple than Khaidence or MaKenzy.

  • I have a unique name (FN and MN are completely made-up).  The frustrating thing is that FN is quite simple 2 syllables, 6 letters, but most people don't even try to pronounce it.  But then they respond with "oh, so just how it looks" when I tell them how to pronounce it.  Um, yeah!  That's why my mom spelled it that way!  As an adult and mom-to-be searching for names for my baby, I've gained a new appreciation for my name and for my mom's creativity and guts to use it!
  • Unique name. My name is kind of unusual (never cracked the top 100), but at least it's spelled properly. If you want something unique, that's the way to go, IMO.

Wow, I never realized Apollonia had a dash and an accent mark. I don't have much experience with the name, but I've only ever seen it as Apollonia.

May I ask where you heard/saw the name, and if it was in the US? Also, is there any other insight you could provide regarding this name? I really like it, in case you couldn't tell.

To the OP, I'd much rather have a unique name, as long as it wasn't made up.
