Cloth Diapering

weekend away and CD

Before my question let me just say that I'm still learning about CD so if my question seems silly, forgive me Stick out tongue  My family is planning a weekend trip about three hours away from home for fourth of July weekend, my baby will still be in the NB stage I assume since he'll be about a month old...do you travel with CD as well? how do you store the dirty diapers and about how many would you need for a 3 day two night stay?  Thanks a lot ladies!

  • For that age, you are going to need 12-14 diapers a day. When we travel, We just take our wetbags with us and if we keep them closed, they don't smell. But we typically have access to a washer and dryer, so I don't worry.

  • We travel all the time with CDs.  I have an XL PW hanging wetbag that I take.  You'll probably have to change 10-12 times a day, so 36-40 diapers.

  • A newborn is going to go through at least 12-18 diapers per day.  If you use prefolds & covers for the newborn stage it would be so easy to travel with them b/c they're easy to pack.  I went away over Thanksgiving and took our entire stash of pockets, along with sample packs of Rockin' Green so I could do laundry, and a Planet Wise Hanging Wet/Dry bag.  It was just as easy as CDing at home.  If I didn't have access to a washing machine I probably would have just packed prefolds and covers with the wetbag.
  • I use disposables for travel.

  • we went to an out of town wedding when dd was two weeks old (it was my bil's wedding and dh was best man) and i used disposables. i did't feel confident enough about cding yet and was already stressed about bringing the baby around so many people and trying to squeeze into a dress. if it were now, i would not mind cding while traveling and wouldn't mind doing it with a second newborn either.

just wait and see how you feel about it at the time is my advice.

  • At newborn stage, I would have used Swaddlers for a 3 day trip. I flew across the country  many times with CDs, but it was when she was older and only using 4-6 a day. My stash A) never would have lasted that long, or B) fit in a reasonably sized wet bag! Either plan to do laundry once or use Swaddlers.

This pretty much except on a 3 day trip I've never needed to wash.  I just washed when we got home.

It's really easy and I didn't have to worry about putting stinky diapers in someone else's trash.
