Cloth Diapering

How much bulkier are CD's?

Please don't flame me - Ok so maybe this is a stupid question but how much bulkier are CD's? Like as opposed to the bulk of spoosies.  I didn't even think of this until I seen an add today for special CD pants.  Is DD not going to fit in all of her clothes when I get my fluffy mail?

Re: How much bulkier are CD's?

  • Not gonna lie. They're going to be bulkier. But you learn to love the fluffy butt. and I never had to worry about her clothes. DD was in nb pants (and even a couple of preemie pants) with her prefolds and covers. You'll be fine :)
  • They are bulkier. When we switched to CDs, DD had just moved up to 12-18 month size clothes... and NONE of her new pants fit over CDs.

I don't have special CD pants, but I'm now smarter about what kinds of pants I buy. I try to avoid jeans. Instead, I use one-piece rompers, overalls, or looser-fitting pants made of knit cotton or fleece. If I do buy a pair of jeans or other tighter-fitting pants, I usually size up so they'll fit over the diapers.

I think it's more of a problem for girls than for boys, because pants for boys tend to be looser-fitting anyway (even jeans and stuff). But, on the other hand, girls can always wear dresses -- CDs work great under those!

  • I worried about it too :) Its ok! The only thing Ive had to size up in are jeans....things that dont stretch.

  • Definitely bulkier and I didn't like it at first, but it grew on me. As they get bigger everything is much less bulky and we use hemp inserts in our pockets now so it cuts down on the bulk. I never had trouble fitting DD in clothes though. With girls, leggings are the main kind of pants I've seen and they fit fine, never had to size up. You can buy the looser fitting yoga pants too, but I don't think it's necessary to buy special cloth diaper pants.

  • I looove sewing baby clothes and am dying to make these for someone...  they're a free pattern for "big butt baby pants" -- specifically for babies in CD.

  • Honestly, I have no idea how DD would have kept her pants ON without a big ol' CD butt! seriously, even now at 4 y.o., we have a hard time keeping her pants up over her slim little butt. So, yes, bulkier, but I found it made her clothes fit better. We don't have much junk in our trunks!

  • How much bulkier depends on what you use. My kids have been super small so I've been glad that the CDs keep their pants up! If you need bigger, just buy bigger and roll up the legs - or sew them.

  • She's 3 months, and fits in 3 month things, 3-6 month things -- but NOT 0-3 in her CDs.
  • My NB wears NB clothes with pre-folds & covers (the bulkiest of all)  It's not a problem.
