Multiples

Diaper Genie useful for twins?

I've been reading a book on multiples and it mentioned that a diaper genie isn't practical for twins/multiples.  I thought I'd check to see what you used and what you found works the best.  Are there better options out there?

  • I love love love this diaper pail!  No stink, even after a year!  And you can use kitchen bags!

  • I have a diaper geenie and think it's great, but the refills are a bit pricey.

I'd probably go with the pp recomendations, since you'll save money on refills by using kitchen bags.

  • We use ours for poopy diapers only otherwise you would be changing it multiple times per day.  We just use a small 13 gallon can for pee diapers.
  • i'm happy with mine but i like the pp idea cause the refills are 19 for 3 and it adds up after a while

  • We got one as a shower gift and after 2 months of going through a refill in less than 2 weeks, and trying to make it work with a trash bag (which is possible until the ring warps), I ditched it and got an older style diaper champ at Once Upon a Child for $20.  That's the cost of 3 refills.  It's not as stink free as the diaper genie, but it gets taken out so often it's not a huge issue.

Doing it over again, I'd skip the diaper genie.  It's one of those things that singleton parents recommend because they're not changing close to 20 diapers a day.

Another thumbs up from this momma! I used it with DD#1 and bought a new one for the twins. Love it!

  • Yeah, I used the Diaper Genie for 2 weeks before getting rid if it.  It just filled up way too fast.

I use the Diaper Champ from BRU. https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3491391  Super cheap and easy.  We use 13 gallon trashbags with Febreeze.

This is what we do and I'm happy with it.  But now I might get what PPs recommended....  ha

  • I love our Diaper Genies!!  We have 2...one upstairs, one downstairs.  We use the downstairs one more and only put dirty diapers in that one.  I roll the diapers up really small and we only have to empty them every 4ish days.  No problem with smell at all except once in a while one we when open it.  My friend has a Diaper Champ and I hated it.  I think it's personal preferrence which one, but you probably want something!

  • I think they are useless. With twins you need to change it so often and those refills are expensive. I just use a regular small garbage can with a lid. Cheaper and works the same.

  • Thanks for all your advice!  I'm glad to know there's other options out there that are cheaper and as effective.

I have the one Kimarino recommends and a Diaper Geenie. The Safety 1st one holds way more diapers and that's the one I use predominantly. It took 4 months, but mine currently does smell. But I got lazy and didn't replace the air fresheners. I'm going to do that and lysol it out and I'm sure it will be good as new. When the air fresheners worked I never smelled poop.

The Diaper Geenie is ok. I got it from a garage sale for my downstairs and after the geenie "bag" thing ran out I just shoved a regular garbage bag in it. It doesn't work as well like that but I'm not about to pay for those refills. It keeps the smell out but doesn't hold very much IMO.

I put one of those gel bead containers in the bottom of mine, and change it out every month or two.  I think we have the linen scent.  It works great!  I also spray the inside with Lysol when I change the bag (once a week).

Yep, ditto this. We had the Arm & Hammer one, but went through 3 boxes of refills in about a month. The Diaper Champ holds more diapers and best of all, you can use 13gal kitchen bags. Yes

  • I guess I am in the minority but I *hated* the Champ.  It filled up quickly and would get jammed when it got close to full.  I threw mine away after 2 weeks.

  • I may be in the minority - but I love, love my diaper genie...but we only have it in the girls bedroom (on the 2nd floor)...so it only really gets used for 1-2 changed a day (at naptime and before bed)...it keeps their room stink free and that I love...

downstairs (where most of the diaper changes take place) we just throw them in our main trash can in the kitchen and take the trash out regularly...
