VBAC

Starting to get nervous

Being 34.5 weeks pregnant I know that I am bound to get nervous about delivery, but I am starting to really have doubts about the VBAC I want. I am a great canidate for VBAC (DS1was delivered vaginally with the help of a little pitocin at 39 weeks, DS2 was c/s due to breech, it has been 4 years since c/s)

I had such a great delivery with DS1 and the c/s was really hard on me. I never even thought about having a c/s with DS2 bc my first delivery was so wonderful and he didn't turn breech until the very last minute. I wasn't educated about it at all, never had had  any kind of surgery. So all in all I had a very bad experience.

I was so positive and upbeat about delivering DS1 everyone told me  I couldn't do it without pain meds. I did and I rocked at it. I have been trying to stay positive about this birth but it is so hard when it is mentioned that I have had a c/s everyone assumes I am going ot have another. My dr basically says it all depends on how I go into labor. He said they can't do much to induce labor so basically I am scared that it won't happen on its own since with DS1 I was given pitocin. (I went in bc I woke up at 3am bleeding ALOT. Go to L&D and they moniter me for a few hours. From the time I got there to the time they were thinking of sending me home I went from 2 to 5 cm. I didn't even know I was having contractions. I mean they were on the moniter but I didn't feel them. So they kept me and broke my water and then things slowed down. DS's heart rate was dipping with contrax so they gave me pictocin and 3 hours later he was out with the cord around his neck. Good thing he came out!)

I just needed to get that out somewhere and you ladies may have been where I am.....not many people around me want to have a birth with no meds let alone try to have a vaginal birth when a c/s is so "easy".

Sorry that got long. Thanks for reading :)

Re: Starting to get nervous

  • Your body was working on it's own for your first delivery - hey, you got from 2 - 5 cm in a few hours.  Not bad at all!

I hear you on the nerves thing.  I have moments myself.  You've done this before, though, so you're in a great place to do it again!!  You can do this!!!  :D

  • It sounds like you went into labor on your own the first time and if not for the dipping heartrate, they wouldn't have given pit, is that right? Sounds like you've got nothing to worry about to me!

  • You've done it once and you can do it again!

I started taking evening primrose oil at 37wk, both by mouth and vaginally. It's supposed to help soften the cervix slowly, it's not something that's supposed to set off hard contractions, so I felt ok taking it for a vbac.

Personally I tried to plan for a better birth experience - even if that was another c/s - and did what I could to make sure it wasn't a bad experience (switched hospitals was my biggie, and a new OB)

  • I totally understand the worrying. My first was a c/s so I really just had no idea what was going to happen with number 2! I was convinced I'd never go into labor, that I could never really dilate all the way, that I couldn't really push the baby out...seriously up until they told me that it was time to start pushing, I didn't think it was really happening!

It's normal, but you're going to be fine. It sounds like you have every chance of having a normal vaginal delivery, and totally rocking it once again :)
