Quitting swaddle cold turkey- who has done it???

Eli seems to be too hot in the swaddle because his room gets really hot at night so we have to stop the swaddle asap. I was just wondering who has done this and how bad was it??? I just don't want to be up in the middle of the night with him because of this.

  • We stopped swaddling this week (cold turkey) because Kinner has started to roll all over the place.  I sort of hate it b/c he wakes himself up in the middle of the night because he has rolled.  He can usually sleep 5-7 hours for the first stretch, but now, without the swaddle, he lasts only 4--ish hours.

  • We quit last week and had no problems, granted we didn't swaddle for about a month and then went back to it.

But, one night I swaddled him and he immediately pushed his hands up and out, so I just gave it a try and we've had no problems

  • We quit swaddling cold turkey because my pedi told me I stop now that my daughter is rolling over.  The first couple of nights were rough because she kept waking up due to getting stuck in the crib bars.  But then she got used to it and seems to be sticking to the middle of the crib.  Now, she normally only wakes up in the night to eat.

  • We did, but that's because I gave up and let her sleep on her tummy.

  • We stopped swaddling cold turkey last week because DD was breaking out of it all the time.  She did just fine and she even sleeps a little bit longer now.  I would suggest, like many have suggested to me when I was thinking of quitting, try no swaddling his hands and just his body and see if that makes a difference.  If he sleeps just fine without his hands swaddled then I would try no swaddle at all next.  HTH
  • We replaced the swaddling blanket with a sleep sack. At least his legs are contained. He woke himself up flailing his arms at first, but he was breaking the swaddle and doing that anyway.
  • We quit cold turkey for naps, but weaned gradually for night time.  And we transitioned to Halo Sleepsacks.  What are you using to swaddle with, and what does your LO wear under the swaddle?  I know Halo makes cotton swaddles, which we used throughout the summer, with just a onsie under.  We also have always had a small fan going to circulate the air.  It's important not to overheat LO, but as long as your LO isn't rolling yet, maybe try reducing the layers or cooling his room.
