Baby Names

Braxton?

Okay ladies!

At first I didn't like the name Braxton; but the more I said it out loud, the more it began to grow on me. Personally, I think it's not too bad of a name for a kid, at the same time when they are grown up it's a good name for an adult. I don't like how some people name their kids cute little names when they are kids, and don't think about what it will sound like when they are older. Anyway, today I started thinking what if it is a hard name for other toddlers to pronounce? Is there a nickname for Braxton? WDYT? Because I can not think of one.

Also, what do you ladies think about that name?

Re: Braxton?

  • It's an OK name, but I can't think of any nicknames either!  Brax?

  • I don't like it. I know a little boy named Paxton. It isn't really my style but I think it is better then Braxton.
  • nms but it's growing on me. i guess brax?

  • To me this actually is one of those cutesie names for a little kid that will not end up sounding great on a 50 year old man.  But if you really like it, go for it.

Brax would be all I could think of for a nn.

  • are you talking about Toni Braxton or Braxton Hicks?

  • I guess to be honest I cannot think of much other than the obvious Braxton Hicks.  But I guess someone important had to have that name, and then got some random contractions named after him.  It's a cool name when you stop thinking of Braxton Hicks. Hopefully your name doesn't sound ANYTHING like Hicks.  A nickname might be Ax, especially if he plans on being a surfer, skater, or in any kind of rock band.  I like it.

  • Sounds original but still good... I have a cousin named Paxton but his NN wouldn't work (Pac-man... lol)

I think we all are thinking Braxton Hicks contractions cause most if not all of us are pregnant hahaha....and I don't think that would be on the minds of all the kids that your LO would go to school with...

Baxley is name similar to Braxton that you might like...

This for me. My little sister (high school) spouted this out as a potential baby name (even though it's nowhere near my style). My dad BURST out laughing and immediately said, "Oh, like Braxton Hicks?"

    Boy.
Phantom babies, I guess you could say. I've had a list for awhile and my FI & I have been talking about it. I'm the kind of person that likes to plan ahead. I know a lot of people that have had an idea before they got pregnant.

Haha. I remember being about 6 months from my wedding and being terrified that I'd get pregnant. :)

I don't know... I definitely think of contractions and singers first... I guess I don't hate it though. I think it's better for a little boy than an adult man though. Know what I mean?  It might make a really good middle name though.

  • Yeah I'm def. hoping for after the wedding and not before because I already got my dress & I'd like to fit in it:)

It's not a definite name, my list is still at like 30 names each haha good thing is I still have awhile to narrow down

  • I am definitely not a fan of this name. I think "Braxton Hicks" whenever I hear it, or see it. I can't imagine calling a grown man Braxton, or even a little child for that matter.

  • Like Hicks?

    I had a lot of those...actually...

  • DH's grandfather was a Braxton!  I kind of wish we could use it for that reason, but it feels trendy and madeup to me, not to mention Braxton Hicks.  He went by "daddy brax," so I guess Brax would be the nickname.

    This!

  • Ugh.

I am convinced this is one of the worst "real" names ever for either sex. It sounds completely repulsive, and who in the world would name a child after "fake" contractions?

This for me too.  That and that it sounds like a last-name (I'm not so into the last-names as first-names phenom).
