Restless after 5:00

My son used to be great in the evening but ever since he turned 6 months, every night is a battle starting at 5:00.  He doesn't want to play, be by himself, nap, read books, etc etc,  The only thing that will keep him calm is for me to carry him around.  Is this normal?  My husband and I can't have a peaceful dinner, because he refuses to sit in ahigh chair or other seat during dinner.  He has to sit on one of our laps or he is screaming.  I just don't understand why he is so unsettled.  He is a really good napper and naps every two hours, so I don't think he's tired.  He usually goes to bed around 7-7:30.  ANy thoughts?  ANyone else in the same boat?

It's called the "witching hour" and it's totally normal. Most babies and even some toddlers are a bear around the dinner hour. I believe it's just overstimulation from a long day, even with good naps. It will get better. But it's definitely a tough time of day for many of us!
