Re: Acupuncture???

  • Well jeez, you've been here for 5 minutes and you're already asking questions?

TOTALLY KIDDINGSmile Welcome to the Board.  I am very sorry for your loss.  Feel free to jump on in with questions.

I know nothing about the relative merits of accupuncture, but I have been considering throwing it into the bucket of desperation that is my TTCAL journey, with the assumption that it can't hurt.  I recall a few ladies on here doing it, so you should get some responses.

While I am at it, and while you are getting acclimated over here, check out the TTCAL Blog (link in my siggy) maintained by some of the ladies on this Board for some great information (including FAQs...though I don't think there are any on accupuncture) and a special tab with "Newbie" information that talks a bit about how the Board works.

Again, welcome, good luck as you transition to TTCAL, and I hope to see you around!

ETA - FFS, I can't even spell it correctly, can I?

  • It is definitely worth looking into. There has been a considerable amount of research on this and it has been shown to be effective. They are unsure as to the specific reasons why but according to TCM it is thought to balance the body in a variety of ways. I have been wanting to do this but just haven't. Let me know how it goes.

edited to add: TCM=Traditional Chinese Medicine

  • I've though about it, but it's expensive & the reviews I've read are mixed.  I figured I'd save money in the event I need to pay an RE this summer. I have thought about getting it for heavy periods though....plus insurance would cover that.

Just curious, were you having issues getting pregnant before your loss?

  • I think I'm going to start acupuncture the next cycle we're able to TTC.  I've used acupuncture in the past for certain illnesses and have seen good results so I think it's worth trying it for this purpose as well.  If nothing else, I find it very relaxing so maybe it's a good way to just center myself.  I have not really done any research on its effectiveness as it relates to fertility, but my acupuncturist and I have discussed it in the past anecdotally and he's seen success with patients.

  • I was doing accupuncture when I got pregnant with DS. I thought it was really helpful. It certainly helped me feel relaxed and focused and centered - which was difficult for me after my loss. So I can't say that it helped me to get pregnant with a sticky baby. But it helped me relax during a rough period.
