Chills / Shivering?

So, I have the strangest thing happening...each week it seems to be something new with this babe, it's like a test of wills or something.   Recently, after eating any kind of a meal larger than a few bites, I get extremely cold and start to shiver.  This has been happening for a little while now, but seems to be getting worse - particularly after dinner.   It doesn't seem to matter what I am eating.

Is this happening to anyone else?  I don't seem to have a fever - if anything my temp seems to be a little lower than usual.

Re: Chills / Shivering?

  • Oh my goodness!! The same thing started today with me. And the fact that eating anything more than a few bites makes it worse. Got a horrible headache from it all and really shaky. Not liking this feeling at all. Doesn't look like I'll be going to work tomorrow if I wake up like this. Hope you feel better.

  • No fever, I'd guess you're having a hard time keeping up with blood volume. You feel colder on the outside because your blood is rushing to your stomach to digest. Keep taking iron supplements and drink LOTS of water. Are you having any dizziness issues or signs of anemia?

  • This has been happening to me too. But, this past weekend it was worse. Right in the middle of me eating dinner it seems like my body temperature just dropped drastically. My hands turned ice cold and I started to shiver...I ended up having to get under a blanket until I warmed up.

No dizziness and my iron levels are fine...I had them tested at the MW recently and they came back at 13.9 (anything over 10 is good).  I don't know the reason...maybe just adjusting to the new blood volume?  If it keeps up I may call the MW to ask about it.

I appreciate the responses though - if others are experiencing something similar at least I know I'm not a complete freak.  Big Smile

I have, but I figured it might be due to the fact I haven't wanted to eat anything :(

  • I don't have it now, but with both pregnancies I had it early on. Like 10ish weeks with Hope and about 5ish with this one. It was the one thing that made me take a preg test actually.

My OB said it was a common but not really discussed pregnancy symptom.

This along with the temperature changes, I am a diabetic and thats exactly what happens when I have low blood sugar. Everyone will experience low blood sugar at least once in their lifetime, IMO I am not a doctor or anything but if you did have low blood sugar it could be brought on by the pregnancy. In diabetic pregnancies you usually struggle with low blood sugar up until 20 weeks so maybe even if you aren't diabetic you are still dropping sugar levels.

  • I get it off and on at night, but not necessarily right after I eat.
