I am a kindergarten teacher. It will be a miracle...seriously a miracle...if I don't get sick this year. This is the longest I have made it into a school year w/o getting something (knock on wood). All of my kiddos have been out the last couple of weeks with coughs, fevers, sore throats, colds, etc. Today was our 100th day of school party. One parent brought his child in and said, "He has a fever this morning, but he didn't want to miss the fun activities". Gee....thanks. I sent him home after the first activity since he was coughing all over everyone at his table. I guarantee they are all out sick within a week.

Our school has a fever/vomit/diarrhea policy - students that have had any of them have to stay home for at least 24 hours and it's strictly enforced. I would have told the parent that we'll save some goodies and activities for him to do when he's feeling better!
Hope you stay well!
Same here.... I would have sent him home. That would have pissed me off.

Our school has that policy too, but it's not enforced and so parents don't abide by it. And our parents often don't feel like staying home with their kids or "can't"...so they bring them anyways. It's ridiculous. They think we are a daycare. I actually had one this year that I sent to the nurse for a fever, nurse called mom to get her, and mom gave her tylenol and told the nurse she was going back to class because she had to work and she wasn't really sick. No joke.
My little firecracker. Born on her due date,7/4/11
Man, I have to hand it to you (and all teachers), I taught middle school for a year and do not think that I could teach while pregnant. I was exhausted and sick as it the whole year. I'll be crossing my figures for you, that you don't get sick!
I am a preschool teacher within a daycare but we actually abide by these rules and would not have let the parent leave without taking the child... Daycares don't care for sick children.
