Hyperallergenic child!!!

I just found out my 15 week old baby girl might be allergic to milk. She has extremely bad cradle cap and eczema and its not getting any better even with all the oil and selsun blue and everything that has been recomended so they are thinking it could be an allergy. Im a little sad because this means that when she begins to eat food its going to be really hard since she cant have anything with dairy..so imagine a child with no ice cream!!!! This hasnt been really determined cuz im going to see a dermatologist and i guess we will make sure then.

but in all, im just wondering if anyone has a baby or child with this issues and how did u go with feeding food.

  • There are substitutes for everything! You can use rice milk, almond milk, or soy milk to make ice cream! There are a ton of different recipes and products available now.

  • Yes that is what I was just told. THanks.

  • My DD had a "suspected milk protein allergy" when she was a newborn, so she was on hypoallergenic formula. However, she seemed to grow out of it, since she drinks milk, has yogurt and ice cream, and has no problems.

  • Our child had what sounds to be the same.  Try bathing with just water - no soaps or laundry detergents with dyes, perfumes etc.  I used coconut oil to keep face and scalp moisturized. Her skin was BEYOND sensitive so we had to be careful but it cleared up in time.
  • how long untill it cleared up
  • Are you sure she has a true allergy to milk? Usually a true allergy would pop up much sooner than 15 weeks. More likely she has an intolerance to milk protein, which my DD has as well. It's not as drastic as you might think. Most babies grow out of it, and can usually have dairy based products eventually.

Once you get your baby on a hypoallergenic formula, you should expect for her symptoms to start to clear up in 2-3 weeks. After that you can discuss with your doctor a timeline for introducing solids and reintroducing dairy at a later date.
