So typically I'm a lurker, though I will be a SAHM in May when our first is born. I was just curious what you all think of this video/story:
https://news.yahoo.com/video/us-15749625/mom-jailed-for-sending-kids-to-better-school-23973624
Personally, I think she was totally in the wrong. If she wanted her children in that district so badly, why not just move in with her father, especially since she says she was living their part-time anyway?
Re: what do you think of this?
They wanted her to pay $30k in back tuition? That seems excessive. In Wisconsin, you can choose to send your kids to another district as long as there is room. You just need to provide your own transportation.
Obviously, she shouldn't have done what she did, but I don't think the punishment fits the "crime". A felony??? Come on!
A felony is a bit excessive. I can't believe she just didn't change her address to her father's address. It would have just solved all her problems. I think the school system should be ashamed that they spent thousand's of tax dollars to fight this on private investigators and lawyer fees. When the school does their head count at the beginning of the year to receive their per pupil money those girls were counted so the school was compensated for them. They are also receiving tax dollars from her father who does live in the district and from all other households who may not have children but live in the district.
Ok I read another article that gave a bit more information and it was a felony because she falsified records and court documents.
