HPV or LEEP Moms to be

Anyone else on here dealing with HPV? I've had two LEEP procedures, they removed part of my cervix, and it keeps coming back. I have to start getting monitored closer after my anatomy u/s in 2 weeks. I know that the easy fix is to get my cervix sewed shut til 38 weeks, but i'm really hoping and praying that I can do this completely normal and natural.

 Is anyone else currently facing this situation or going through something similar? I could really use the support.

I had a LEEP procedure, but it was about 6-7 years ago.  I haven't had any issues since and my dr doesn't foresee any issues that would affect my pregnancy.  She just said they keep an eye on things.

I've had one LEEP back in 2003 and have thankfully been cleared ever since.  However, the OB had the sonographer check the size of my cervix at my appointment last Monday just to make sure it's still closed and fine.  It's hard not to worry about having an incompetent cervix though.

I know this is easier said than done, but try not to worry until your doctor makes a recommendation.  The main goal is to keep your baby growing inside you as long as possible.  You never know, maybe bed rest is an option for you instead of getting sewn shut.  Definitely try not to worry until your OB says something though.  Hang in there hon!

I actually had the cryosurgery for mine, and no problems that I have noticed or that the OB has noticed. I have had 4 clean paps now, so I am praying it all stays that way

 No I freaked out too when I found out. I cried and you would have thought that I was diagnosed with an incurable disease. After getting the first LEEP my prev GYNO said that it was no big deal, come back in 6 months and I should be fine. BUT I wasn't. They were concerned that it would turn into cervical cancer momentarily. So I had a second procedure done, with a bad PAP 6 months later, except it was WAY better. Then when I went into the OB after finding out I was expecting and had a PAP, but now that I think about it, my OB never called with results. Is that good news then?

Oh man, I was a total spazz when the gyno told me that I had HPV.  I was only 21 at the time and was PISSED that I ever got it since I've only been with DH and one other guy.  I did a ton of research b/c it made me question my DH (who was still my BF then) and whether he cheated on me.  The thought of the procedure didn't scare me as much as the idea of having a cervix that couldn't carry a baby to term.  Yes, I was terrified of that even back then when I thought I wouldn't have kids until my 30s. 

Anyway, yay for staying healthy with clean paps for 7 years now!

There are a few girls on high risk that might have some helpful information for you and words of encouragement.

I have only had LEEP the one time and no issues since but my Dr., nurse, and I had a really long conversation about how some women never have an issue following one or more LEEP procedures and some women just have a more incompetent cerivix (even without LEEP) you may not even have anything to worry about.

ETA: I spazzed as well, it's amazing how little HPV was talked about just a few years ago, after a LOT of research and a seperate consult with my OBGYN I felt a lot better

Agh. You had a much worse exp. than mine. After diagnosis with mine, I didn't see a doctor again for almost a year. So my cryo took a while b/c I apparently had a lot of precancerous cells to get rid of. And I don't know about anyone else, but I did all of my procedures in the spring and summer, and ended up not being able to swim all summer! Lame!

And from my exp. no news is usually good news! Here's hoping for a clean check on your PAP!

I had HPV in college and it took me almost five years to be rid of it. I've had the LEEP procedure and cryosurgery in the past because of it. That was about 4-5 years ago. Thank God, but I've been okay since healing from the surgery. I'll never forget the first clean pap I had after years of bad ones. Brought me to tears.

This was my biggest concern with getting pregnant. I wasn't worried about getting pregnant, it was not being able to stay pregnant part that has terrified me for years. My GYN that has been with me through all of this doesn't do the OB thing so I had to find a new doc. He measured my cervix at the first appointment (don't ask me how) and he said he wasn't concerned because mine measured a good length. He said they'll take a closer look at my cerivix at my u/s (20 weeks) just to be on the safe side. He said that incompetent cervix issues typically don't show themselves until the end of the 2nd tri too. So, I'm still a bit nervous, but he seems confident all will be fine.

Just keep up the treatments your doc suggests and know that you're not alone in the least. 1 in 3 women have HPV. Some are just unlucky enough to have to go through some of the more invasive treatments to get rid of it.

i had 2 colposcopies with cone biopsies. they did not remove a significant amount of cervix to get clear margins. My sill had LEEP and gave birth at 32 or 33 wks. she was on bed rest for the 2 months prior to giving birth.

I had a leep done in 2000 and when I went for my annual this past September, they told me that I had HPV and I had to get a colposcopy.  The colposcopy was fine and they just told me that I would have to come back for annuals every 6 months, but then I got pregnant in October.  So far they haven't said anything, but I know that they said they would watch my cervix closer b/c of the procedures and there was more of a risk for 2nd trimester miscarriages!  Great, something more to worry about!  But, all has seemed good so far.  I need to ask if/how they plan to monitor it at my next appt though.

I actually was actually diagnosed with cervical cancer when I was 21. After amny LEEP and colposcopy's they told me my option was a radical hysterectomy because they thought the cells had migrated into the glans past the cervix. Since I was so young I was against the hysterectomy and they took me to OR and perfomrd a more or less a more indepth cone biopsy where they actually took out my entire cervix with the exception of a very small (less than 2mm) lip of my cervix. I was followed by oncologist for 2 years and luckily they said if I had waited even 2 more weeks the migration line of cancer cells would have invaded more than the cervix. So, needless to say I was very worried about having an incompetent cervix, but actually found to have the oppoiste with 1st pregancy and many others have said the same. The scar tissue from numerous procedures on your cervix can inhibit dilation. I was in labor for 2 days with no dilation until they realized the scar tisue was preventing me from dilating after the MD broke up the tissue I went from 0-6 immediately (and they thought I was faking). I had a healthy girl and hoping for the same this time around. I am a little worried as I probably don't have that scar tissue so I worry about incompetent cervix, but I take one day at a time.

I had one LEEP done back in 2008 and my doctor is doing an ultrasound every 2 weeks for the entire 2nd tri to make sure my cervix is staying how it should.

I've had a colposcopy with a biopsy after an abnormal pap.  LEEP was never mentioned...is this the same thing?  I want to cover it more thoroughly with my OB if that's the case.

No, colposcopy is different from a LEEP.  Colposcopy is in the doc's office and it's a way for the gyno to see your cervix better.  This is also why they do a biopsy during a colposcopy.  A LEEP involves anesthesia and it removes the 'bad" cells from your cervix.

I think LEEP was the same thing as a colposcopy. I'm not 100%, but I think it's the same thing. It's been a while since I went through all of it.

I was scheduled to have the LEEP procedure last month and found out I was pregnant 3 weeks before surgery. My doc now has to perform checkups on me to make sure nothing is spreading. I'll have to have the LEEP a few weeks/months after delivery now. I'm super nervous that baby #2 (if we get there) will not be full-term.

You got it!  I had the colposcopy and biopsy first and then the gyno ordered the LEEP when the results came back saying I had stage 2 precancerous cells.

I had a LEEP done in 2006, and when I told my OB he said eveyrthing looked okay in my 13 week ultrasound but that he would check again at my 10 week ultrasound to make sure my cervix is still a good length.

I had a LEEP done about 5 yrs ago.  I am going in on Friday for an u/s to check my cervix length, and see if there is the possibility of needing bed rest/stitching. 

I would be more forceful about checking on the health of your cervix.  With 2 LEEPs you are def. at an increased risk for preterm labor.
