Naming not just one, but two children after football players would be genuinely klassy--go for it! Boldly declare to the world, "I have taste and class, damnit!"
::Rolls Eyes:: Grow up, OP. They're kids, not trophies.
Wow...you ladies are harsh. There's a way to voice your opinion without being tacky or rude.
If you look up the meaning of the name Manning it's son of a hero and my husband is in the Army so I thought it was appropriate...it had nothing to do with football.

What's your source? If anything, it should be (appropriately) a surname that describes someone with manly features.
Let's just say if I saw a sibset of Madden and Manning, I'd put that on the name horrors thread, and it's almost enough to call MUD. What other boy names do you have on your list?
Using hero as a jumping point, here are a few names that might work better with your desired meaning and your first-born...or at least give you some ideas.

Herod also has ties to the word, Hero, but I couldn't recommend a name that has ties to the slaughter of children.
Or you could even just use the word, Hero, as the kid's middle name. The point being...there are other ways to incorporate a name story.
