After 3+ years of TTC, I got my BFP, just to be followed up with a M/C this past weekend. I was told at my US Saturday that I had passed all of the tissue. I went for a follow up on Monday, and the doc said that although I passed the tissues, my lining is still very thick, and he may have to do a D&C Thursday. My bleeding is just spotting now. I only had heavy bleeding on Saturday and that tapered off greatly. For some reason my body is not letting the lining go. Any experiences with those who have had a D&C would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

First of all, I just wanted to say to both of you above, that I'm very sorry for your losses. Huge hugs!
Secondly I have had two D&C's and the experience was similar each time. They knock you out with general anesthesia so you won't feel a thing. Both times I woke up groggy but not in any pain at all. Bleeding was light to medium/light and it lasted about a week the first time and closer to two weeks the second time. Afterwards I was just really tired the rest of the day and slept the whole day away. The first time I never felt any pain whatsoever and the second time I only had very mild cramping the day of and the day after.
My doc did send me home with lortabs to help with pain but I never even took them.
Any other questions just let me know.

This time I'm not leaving without you.
I had a suction D&C yesterday after finding out on Friday at our 12 wk u/s that the baby had not been developing for several weeks. Everything went well. They knock you out "enough", as they say. You breathe on your own, so it is apparently not exactly the same as general anesthesia for other types of surgery, and much safer. I felt completely knocked out. The only pain I have had is some very mild cramping and a giant bruise on my hand from the IV. I have had hardly any bleeding. I could have gone back to work today, but I just felt that I needed another day. They said that I could resume normal activity any time I feel ready. No sex for 2 weeks, however.
I'm certainly not happy with the way all this unfolded, but I can't explain what a relief it is to have it all over with. Best of luck to you.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Honestly I would be a bit hesitant to have a D&C after I already passed everything. Why interfere with something your body is already in the process of doing? Sometimes I get upset with doctors and how cavalier they are about doing D&Cs. I agree that sometimes they are warranted but sometimes I just think they do it for their own peace of mind (ok I will step off my soapbox now).
Are you sure it not inflamed? Sometimes it will appear thicker on the scan if it is inflamed. If you are not having signs of retained tissue or infection (excess bleeding, cramping, fever) I would personally wait it out. Plus D&Cs aren't cheap either so why spend money on something that your body has already done...ok I will stop now.
Big hugs to you. I am so sorry that you are even in this predicament and have to even ask this question.
