Baby Names

Opinions on the names we have chosen

Ok so me and my soon to be husband have decided on two names one for a boy and one for a girl. Laviolette(prounounced laveeeohlette) Marie for a girl and Wyatt Ulysses for a boy. We wanted something somewhat original.

Re: Opinions on the names we have chosen

  • NMS at all, but if you want original then you've got it.
  • I really love the boy name... and want to like Laviolette, but I'm sorry... it reminds me of a toilet (I think I'm thinking of LAVatory and toiLETTE)

  • Definitely NMS but not what I would call ugly either.

Ironically enough thats what his mom said lol. I think i might decide on a different one my fiancee got that from a hockey player lol

  • I am from Philly and the Flyers head coach is Peter Laviolette so that is who I think of when I hear that name.

  • I dislike Laviolette immensely. What about Violet/Violette?

I just can't get into Wyatt, but I LOVE Ulysses for a mn.

  • too long of a girl name and people would not know how pronounce it.
  • I like the combination of unique with classic names, but Laviolette is going to be mispronounced all the time.

  • wyatt is growing on me, it's just nms. laviolette reminds me of lavalette, nj.

  • Wyatt Ulysses is fine. Wyatt is the #60 name in the country, so if it is important to you that the name be unusual, you may want to reverse the names (Ulysses Wyatt).

I think Laviolette may cause some pronunciation and spelling problems. If Violet is too common for your taste, perhaps Viola would be a good option.

  • No

girls name emindsme of lavatory and toilette combined

i have never been a fan of wyatt and dont know what i really think of Ulysses

  • I think Wyatt Ulysses is a great name. It's strong, masculine, and has a kind of stately Old West or Southern charm about it.

But I'm with PP on Laviolette. It sounds pretty....euro-trash. Sorry. Violet or Violette would both be lovely alternatives.

  • Laviolette reminds me of what would happen if you combined the work lavatory with toilette.  I would much prefer the name Lavinia.

ETA: Just read the other posts and think it's rather amusing that several of us had the exact same idea about lavatory and toilette.  One person got the hockey reference.  I think that might be your answer if you were looking for a "what will people in the general population think" sampling.

  • I think the spelling of Laviolette looks really pretty, but it made me think of LavaLamp.
  • I grew up with a guy whose last name was Laviolette. We called him "La Toilette"  which is 'the toilet' in french....

Wyatt is common in our area. It's an okay name.

  • I like Marie! Laviolette... well... I agree with the other posters about lavatories and toilets and lava lamps coming to mind. You can name the kid whatever you want, obviously, but I think this one is worth reconsidering!

Wyatt Ulysses is not my style, but it works.

This is what came to my mind also!

    Ditto.
I think the suggestions of Viola and Lavinia are great. Laviolette is nice as a last name but seems laughable, to me, as a first name. Violette would be fine, though.

  • That girl name is original all right.... yikes.... not a fan.
  • I'm really sorry but I kind of HATE Laviolette. Loving the boy name though. <3

I love Wyatt, it's our choice for a boy too.

I really dislike Laviolette. I agree that Violet Marie would be an excellent choice.

This, exactly.  I instantly pictured a bathroom when I read that name.

  • Laviolette is nms but I like Violet.  I like Wyatt but Ulysses is nms.
