I started patches when I started Estrace, so cd3(ish). I had no s/es.
If you get Vivelle Dots, they stay on like no one's business. Be prepared to rub a little rubbing alcohol on the spot when you take them off - it works wonders on the glue goo, although I've heard some women say that baby oil works great, too.
same time you start any estrogen...I started estrace and the patches pretty early in the cycle...maybe between cd3-5ish? and the amount increased slowly. Baby oil really does the trick to get the sticky residue off from the patches. I didn't notice any side effects.
Good luck!
