Help! DD ruining her crib

DD can stand in her crib holding onto the top of it, its on the lowest setting. When she goes down for naps/night time she usually protests by standing and crying. Well she has recently started gnawing on the top bar of the crib (front and side). She is scraping the finish off and when she wakes up there are little brown flecks all over her face. There is a plastic guard on the front but she chews underneath it. How can I get her to stop gnawing the crib or what can I put on it so she can't scrape the finish off. I've thought about a narrow piece of fabric wrapped around bs fastened securely but I'm not sure. Any suggestions?

  • Someone said that you can get a cloth guard for the top.  We haven't quite made it there yet though....

  • I was just at BRU this weekend and they had a number of options that go across the top part of the crib.  I'm not sure if that's what you're describing, but it's worth a shot.

  • This post made me LOL! I was just talking about this with my girlfriends! My Dad made me and my sister each a really nice crib for our kids and I noticed yesterday that the headboard was pretty chewed up, I was not impressed that my sister let this happen. Anyways I brought this up and my one friend said both her boys did this and she's heard of lots that do. And now that I think about it, I remember chewing on the wood of the pews in church as a kid too!

  • I wonder if you could rub something on it that doesnt taste good, like that stuff that stops people from biting their nails.

  • We have the trend lab covers from babies r us. They work great, are easy to take on and off, and wash well.

  • Great suggestions ladies!  I think maybe I'll try a DIY one with a receiving blanket and some ties and if that doesn't work then I'll get the BRU ones.  I should have figured that BRU made something like this!
