Similar to yesterday, I noticed the same side effects of the medication that I did within the first few hours after taking Zoloft this morning.
I originally took my dose at 7:30 last night, and felt pretty drowsy. I was tired enough that I wanted to go to sleep at midnight, but I felt like I was in a half sleep state constantly. I probably would not take this medication in the evenings for fear of it interfering with my already horrible sleeping patterns at night.
This morning, I took the Zoloft at 9 AM. Within an hour, I started to feel the same spaced out feeling, and soon after the drowsiness. Not so drowsy that I could fall asleep, again. But I guess I feel sort of sluggish, and still my unmotivated self.
I can't tell if either DS is just not getting on my nerves because he is not fussy today, or if I've just been sitting back while DH has been taking care of him. I feel like I didn't do anything today.... And now I feel guilty and like I'm a lazy mother.
I hope the Zoloft will not continue to make me feel sort of zombie-like over the next few weeks while I adjust.
Was this something you experienced in the beginning stages until the full effect occurred? I think it is too soon to worry about dosage right now. Even if I started at the next lowest dose, I'm sure I'd be feeling a little out of it since I have never been on a medication previously in my life.
Re: Zoloft day two.
This is the first time I've ever been on meds, and I can tell you that in my experience, the 50mg was AWFUL to start with. When I switched to 25 mg, it allowed my body to adjust to it w/out any side effects. I was way out of it on 50 (at first) but felt great on 25mg for a week, then upped it to 50 and was just fine.
The first time I took my dose of 50mg (initially), I took it in the morning and was awake that night, like you described, in a 1/2 sleep state until 4:30 am. Again, switching to the 25mg allowed my body to adjust and I started taking it at night (to avoid the drowsiness/out of it feeling) and it hasn't kept me awake since.
If you're feeling ok on the 50mg, then I'd give it a few days. But if not, I'd try 25mg at night and see if that makes a difference. Of course I'm only speaking from my personal experience, and everyone reacts differently.
FWIW, if you feel sluggish today, it could also be because you slept poorly last night.. But the 3 friends I know who have been on Zoloft all had to switch to taking it at night for that reason. But again, everyone is different.
