Babies: 6 - 9 Months

What is your 7 month old's bedtime routine?

Currently, we do book, bath, bottle with rocking, bed...(she usually falls asleep by the end of the bottle), and then we place her in the crib. lately she has been waking up as soon as we put her down b/c she is getting so heavy it is hard to it without disturbing her! we are thinking of changing her routine so that she goes down awake (just like we do with naps). In what order do you do your DC's routine? Thanks!

  • We do bath, snuggle time/book, bottle while rocking, bed.  DS usually passes out during snuggle/book time and eats his bottle mostly asleep.  DS is heavy, but if he does wake up when we lay him down he just passes right back out within 10 seconds.  I guess we are lucky!  There have been a few times where I've laid him down sleepy, but awake like we do for naps and he has fallen asleep within 5 min.

  • Bath at 7, into pajamas at 7:20, nurse til 7:30, in bed by 7:30.  She usually wakes up around 10-11 when she hears me coming up the stairs (she's a very light sleeper!) so I nurse her again at 11 and she sleeps til 7 in the morning.  Usually. Smile

ETA: We've always put her down awake (sometimes not even drowsy) and she'll either fall right asleep or talk to her stuffed monkey til they both fall asleep.

  • We only do baths every other night still- DS has eczema and I don't want to irritate it more. On bath nights, we'll do the bath first, then lotion and PJs, then nurse, then read to him in the glider, then bed. He is almost always very much awake when we put him down. He's usually all smiley waiting for us to put his mobile on, so we turn that on, turn off the light, and close the door and he usually goes to sleep after a couple minutes. Sometimes he lightly cries, other times he is completely quiet. Non bath nights are the same thing, minus the bath of course.

  • PJs, sometimes a book then a bottle. We used to give him his bottle downstairs then bring him to his crib and lay him down. This resulted in him screaming 75% of the time. Now we do pjs/diaper change and then dim all the lights in his room and give him his bottle. He seems to relax more and we are able to put him down drowsy after eating with no problems. I'm sure this is just another bad habit that we've created, but I will take having to rock or feed my child to sleep and him sleeping through the night for 12+ hour over him going down easy but waking during the night.
