OMG - molars

It's our turn. Delaney was kinda cranky over the weekend and I attributed it to her cold. Until I noticed how swollen her bottom gums were. She has two molars coming in. And her incisors have been trying to break through for months now. Last night was the worst - she went right to bed (she was sooo tired), but woke up a couple hours later with the most pitiful cry. And she rarely wakes up at night. DH and I were up and down all night. I had given her Ibuprofen, teething gel and a teething ring. She didn't even want to be rocked. It's sooo frustrating and heartbreaking when she is in such discomfort and we can't really do anything. Coffee will be my friend today....How did you make it through, if you've been through it? Any advice?

Re: OMG - molars

  • I have no advice, because we are going through this now as well. It is awful. When she gets really bad I put her in the ring sling or wrap and we walk back and forth through the house.

  • We are in the same boat. It sucks. I hope they both feel better ASAP! No advice here.

  • Not looking forward to this. Sydney has been super fidgety in her sleep lately. Like she can't get comfortable. I am thinking it's her teeth.

Feel better Delaney! And Gracie! Hope they come through soon!!!

Matildasun - is that you?!?  My goodness - I haven't seen you since right after Ada was born!  Where have you been?  Good to see you here again....and lets hope all our little girls start feeling better soon!

  • Carla,

I wish I had advice, but I really don't.  Aaron was SUPER fussy during the afternoons when his upper molars were coming (they came first) and he's cutting the bottoms now (almost out). But overall was consoled by my holding him. He was clingy and whiny, but would let me try to help.

However, he's cutting his upper canines now and THAT'S awful. He's drooling so much that he has a rash all over his cheeks (from the wetness and the dry Winter air). He's literally biting his hands where there are tooth marks. He never liked frozen teethers, but now he chomps down on them.

I hope they break through soon. Be warned, however, you'll possibly see blood and bits of gum when they do. Kinda gross, but that's my experience.

  • Honestly, I think my boy has a very high tolerance for pain.  It wasn't nearly as bad as I'd feared.

We had maybe one bad night, in which he just woke up a lot and cried a little.  Some ibu and he was right back asleep.   And he got all four molars at once.  But I know they're still bothering him, even tho they're all out.

So sorry, I'm no help.   But lots of pain reliever and plenty of rest and some crunchy foods to gnaw on.

  • No advice, just sympathy.  Miller is cutting all four molars and his incisors right now.  The pedi said we may be in for some rough times.  Last night I came home from work at 10, and he was crying and standing up in his crib.  I scooped him up, and we played until 11.  He seems to be in pretty good spirits, but he is definitely waking up a lot and sleeping for shorter periods of time.  Oh, and he bit me on my shoulder blade!  I yelled "OUCH!"  and he burst into big tears.  I think I scared him, but D@#$ that hurt!!!

  • oh, hon, I have been up off and on all night with DS and finally up at 4:30 with inconsolable crying.  We drug him up, pop some teething tablets and hope for the best.  If she'll take it, try iced chamomile tea -- it's calming and has anti-inflammatory properties anyway.  DD loves it but DS will not have anything to do with it.  Otherwise, Coffee.  Just realize that it won't last forever and at least for mine, by the time they were half-way through, the pain seemed to ease up.

  • No advice except settle in!  For us, the buggers have been up and down, and up an down.  We finally have 3 through!  DD did like her frozen teethers a lot more than she ever did before too.
  • I hope it's a big boat, because it looks like we're in it too.  Does she have runny poop from the drool?  Margaux sure does.  :(

  • No advice just lots of sympathy. Sarah already has all her 1-year molars and also the canines and wasn't bothered at all.
