NBR: I need some help with a book

I am taking classes towards my masters.  I have this one class where I have to do a bunch of projects regarding children's books.  I am blanking on this one project.

I need some suggestions of children's books that would be a good way to introduce myself to students and also kind of set up a "theme" for the year and then be able to do an activity related to the book for the children to get a chance to introduce themselves.

Like the example my professor gave was "The Little Engine that Could."

I am usually really good with childrens books selections but I think because I have so many projects with books for this class that I am running a blank on this particular subject.

So I am just needing some ideas on what possible books that I can use...I'd appreciate any help y'all can give me :)

Re: NBR: I need some help with a book

  • What about "The Giving Tree" and you could talk about how important it is to be kind to your classmates and put others before yourself.  An activity could be something like each kid talking about what their favorite subject is then you could organize the kids into "study groups" where each child has a different favorite subject so they could all help each other out.
  • The Little Red Hen

    The Ant and the Grasshopper

    The Tortoise and the Hare

Any fable would be great for character discussion. Depending on how old the kids are they may be able to select a character or story that represents them .

  • What about A House is a House for Me

You could do a science theme (habitats) or a larger theme like global responsibility
