how do you make oatmeal/cereal for LO?

when LO was smaller, i used to mix the oatmeal with formula and then mix it with her fruits and veggies. but as she's gotten bigger, i've been eliminating the liquid and just mixing the dry grain with the stage 2 foods. it's been working ok, but i'm wondering what others are doing. if you give your LO a serving of oatmeal or cereal or some other kind of dry grain, how do you prepare it? do you mix it with a liquid (bm, formula, water, juice) and feed it as is, or do you mix it with a fruit or veggie? and if you do mix it with a fruit or veggie, do you mix the dry grain with the puree, or do you prepare the oatmeal with a liquid first and then mix it with the puree?

  • I mix it with formula and either a puree or just a smashed up banana. I usually just dump everything in together, like, oatmeal, formula powder, puree, water. But DH is adament about mixing the formula first, then mixing that into the cereal, THEN adding the puree. He is convinced it tastes better that way.

oh she gets her vegi's and fruit seperate in the same feeding too

  • I mix the oatmeal with water, and then add the baby food if I'm going to. I also will give her a little cinnamon in her oatmeal in the mornings as breakfast. I figure that must taste better than plain oatmeal with water. I think it's too dry if you just mix with food, but I make my own baby food so it's usually not as liquid as store food.

  • I make her oatmeal with formula and then I drizzle a puree (that is very thin) on the top of it. I usually add another fruit that I give her on the side.
  • I make a bottle before she eats so I just mix it with a little formula. She eats her fruit/vegetable seperate.

  • I still mix it with BM. She gets her fruits and veggies separately.

it's really liquidy, even stage 2 foods! my LO gets pissed ifwe try to feed her stage 2 foods without a grain because it's too liquidy--unless it's a really yummy flavor, like strawberry banana... but strained peas, forget it!

  • I add a fruit or veg puree.  His favorite thing to add is actually just canned pumpkin with some cinnamon and nutmeg, but I also do applesauce, berry yogurt or butternut squash.  For some reason I feel odd adding something I wouldn't want in my oatmeal.

  • dry grain + puree, mix well, feed baby.

Sometimes I accidentally dump too much dry grain into the bowl with the puree in it and I need to add a few drops of water or formula (what ever I have right next to me is what I use, he doesn't care and it wont make that big of a difference).

My LO too! She hates if we buy something and it doesn't have any chunks lol. She loves to mush it around in her mouth. Like you said, the only thing she doesn't mind is if yogurt isn't mixed, since it's sweet and yummy!

  • I mix it with a dash of formula and water then place a stage 2 veggie or fruit on the other side of the bowl. So I feed LO some bites of just the oatmeal or cereal, some just the veggie or fruit and then some mixed together........she loves it!
  • Microwave water until it boils.

Combine 1T food processed steel ground oats powder

Microwave 2-3 cubes pureed fruit (morning) or veggies (evening)

    Mix together

MIne hated oatmeal by itself.  The only ones I don't mix are avacado and bananas.  They're too thick.
