Well that was anticlimactic. Kinder registration.

I registered DD for Kinder today. I was a little let down. No orientation, no packet, no idea which of 3 kinder classes she's in. Everything in this HUGE district is school-specific, so to get any answer you have to call the school. I don't even know the start date, other than "the first of August." Erm, ok? I didnt expect a marching band, but something tangible. So far, completely and totally unimpressed.

That is what it was like here.  Its so busy with so many kids that registration really is just paper work.  Once the schools see how many students they are going to have they split them up into classes.  In the summer I received a packet in the mail of "what they should know" to work on. Then we got a letter from his teacher (after classrooms were posted on the doors of the school) saying she was excited for the school year and told us about open house.  <-----That is when you will learn more and it is done that way so you can meet your dc teacher and he/she can fill you in on what to expect, classroom schedule, bus/pickup times, start date, and anything else you want to know.  It was late August for us and school started the end of Aug.  So its only a few weeks before school starts.

I cant believe that this time last year I was doing this with L and that in a few weeks will be doing it with the girls!  OMG my babies are going to K.  :(

  • Really? Maybe you'll get more information in the mail later?

I just got DS's registration packet in the mail, it has listed all the important upcoming dates. This includes when to come in for registration, the date for kindergarten testing and the date for orientation which is for the kinders to come tour the school, see their classroom, meet their teacher, take a ride on the bus and a brief meeting for the parents. I would imagine all schools would do this? Maybe you'll receive more info later.

  • Maybe you get more info later? We don't register until March and then they hold 2 kinder warm-up days in April as well as a 2 week summer school to prep for kindergarten.

  • It was nothing when I registered DD either.  You know and I have been thinking.   When I gave her age, they auto enrolled her into PreK4, even if I had wanted to hold her back.  They didn't even ask... We don't find out until 4-5 days before school starts whose class DD will be in.  DS will likely go to PreK3 in our public school.  I will enroll with the sibling enrollment which isnt until March/April.

  • Nope, nothing until day 1. I called the school. No frakin' wonder so many put their kids in private. really crappy first impression. It's all on the parents.
