Postpartum Depression

As anyone tried wellbutrin

I am currently on celexa, but am not having much success with it.  As anyone tried wellbutrin?  Did it help?

Re: As anyone tried wellbutrin

  • I've been on wellbutrin for about a month now and I love it. First I was on paxil and it made me drowsy so my OB prescribed it. It is supposed to give you more energy and so far it has been great.

I also read that the most common side effect is weight loss.

  • I was on 450mg before I got pregnant and dropped to 150mg while pregnant and was fine the whole time. After DS was born I continued to take 150mg and was fine for the first two and a half months and then I just recently started taking 300mg again. I have had good results with it as long as I am on the correct dose.

  • I was on it before pregnancy, was weened off for the entire pregnancy, and 6 days after delivery I was put back on due to PPD. LOVE, love, love Wellbutrin! I have been on Prozac, Paxil, & Effexor before.. Effexor being the absolute worst (for me anyway). I am on 150mg 2 times a day now and feeling great! Thank god, PPD is just horrible. And as the previous poster said, weight loss is one of the side effects, it is the #2 side effect, and #1 is appetite loss.. assuming that's why you lose the weight. It is so very true, in my case, I lost the 37 pounds that the Effexor put on me within 2 months after starting Wellbutrin!! I lost 10 lbs in the first week. That may have alot to do with why I am so happy on this medication, when you feel good about body, you feel good in general. Good luck finding the right med for you.. I know it's tough!!

  • I'll be the odd ball. I took Wellbutrin and ended up in the hospital with side effects that built over time and then one night became incapacitating. I could barely function. I'm grateful at the time that LO was still small enough to be happy playing under her play gym and not the active child I have running around now. I had a longer acting dosage at the time but when my doctor switched me down to a short acting dose I was better. I'm off it all together because I was too afraid of it to continue taking it consistently.
  • Thank y'all for all your honest posts.  I really appreciate it.
