Do you have a baby carrier?

Looking for recommendations for a baby carrier to use with baby #2.  I purchased a Moby and it's just didn't work well for me (and DD never liked being in it), so I'm hoping to find something that works better (and is easier to put on).

I'd really like to find one that works well for newborns, so that I can do things around the house while on maternity leave.

If you've used a baby carrier, please share (good or bad reviews)!

Re: Do you have a baby carrier?

  • I can't imagine 2U2 without an awesome carrier! I LOVE my Ergo and used it from the very beginning with the Heart2Heart insert. I believe the Beco carriers are very similar but come with the newborn insert and fancy fabrics (for more $$ of course).

I've tried and did not like the following prior to falling for my Ergo: Baby Bjorn, Lascal M1 & Pocket Style Sling

  • Love Beco Butterfly but wasn't too pleased wearing my newborn in it.  She does fine in it now that she's 7 months.  I currently use a Babyhawk mei tai--love it!

  • I have a baby hawk and the sling from www.sevenslings.com.  The baby hawk isnt great for newborns, but the sling you can use from newborn to toddler and it's really simple/easy to put on and take off.

  • I have an Ergo and would recommend that with the infant insert.

Prior to the Ergo I tried to use a Bjorn and I wouldn't recommend it. I also had a sling (maybe a hot sling), but DS was a really big baby, seemed really squished in it and hated it- so I returned it.

  • Sometimes I feel like I own almost every carrier on the market (DD hated her carseat and stroller).

Hands down the Ergo is the best.

The bjorn was really uncomfortable but very easy if you were going to run into a store for 5 min.

Moby- only good if at home

    kelty backpack- HUGE and complicated

side sling- hardly used this even though she could sit on my hip and it was easy to put on it was just uncomfortable

  • Baby k'tan - I love love love this sling. It's the best one I have (also have the babyhawk and a zolowear ring sling) and I use it ALL THE TIME. DS2 is in it when we go out and at home usually during the witching hours. It has several different configurations depending on the age of your baby so it's long term. It doesn't hurt my back and DS2 loves it. I used it all over disney world last month and it worked great. Make sure you get the correct size and the other good thing is it is machine washable.

  • I have a Moby and an Ergo carrier with the newborn insert. DD prefers the Moby at this stage, but the Ergo works well as well.

  • I have an Ergo, Baby Hawk Mei Tai, Infantino Flip Carrier and SevenSling. I plan on getting a Moby for LO#2 for around the house, too.

  • I ordered my Beco from a place called Nurtured Family in Houston and it had free shipping.  Your best bet is to do a google search for them; also check ebay.  I LOVE my Beco and was still able to wear DD comfortably at 33lbs.  I think I paid $109ish, which isn't much more than the Ergo by the time you get the inserts.

I have the Ergo Sport. I highly recommend going with the Sport version. The fabric is a bit lighter and stretchier. I get people asking me all the time which one I have. Even moms that have another Ergo ;)

  • With DS I used a Moby for the first few weeks, then switched to a Pikkolo, which we both LOVED! I chose it over the Ergo because I wanted a carrier which I could use with him forward-facing. It did come with an infant insert.
  • I wanted to chime in and vote for the Ergo also. I had a Bjorn also and it was really uncomfortable. Once I got the Ergo, I never wore the Bjorn again.

  • Wow the Bjorn gets a bad rap on here.  I used it with DD #1 and had no issues with it not being comfortable for her or me.  Granted I didn't live in it like I know some people do, but for short in and out shopping trips or walks once in a while it was great.  I used it from very early on until she was 25 pounds.

  • DS loved the Bjorn too, but he only faced out in it. He hated the Moby and the sling I had for him. He just wanted to be able to see everything.  Hopefully baby #2 will be a little more easygoing.

  • DS #2 lived in the Beco for his first few months.  It was actually the only way we could calm him down in the evenings when he was gassy.  I love my beco and still wear it.  You can actually wear it up until they are 40 lbs and it can go on your back.  It is similar to the Ergo, but I have heard that it is better for petite people.  I think you have to buy the Ergo infant insert separately (not sure), but it comes with the beco.  Watch the video before you use it though. When I pulled it out of the box I was confused. It is really easy once you watch the DVD.

That's good to know (that's it good for petite people).  I felt like I was swimming in the Moby!

  • Thanks so  much for the responses.  I'm going to have to do some more reserach now.  I wish I could try them out in person, but none of the local stores carry any other than the Bjorn!
