Parenting after 35

Mini vent about money.

I hate this time of year! We always find ourselves low on funds. Property taxes are due end of the month, along with all the regular bills. Yeah, not quite sure where that money is coming from! I am calling today to find out what the penalty is for withdrawing from my Roth IRA.

My job is pretty seasonal. I work about eight months out of the year. It's the norm for a lot of us in the area. I am usually collecting unemployment now, but I had a few weeks where I couldn't (long story) and my DH's paycheck has been our sole source of income.

I seriously can't wait to file taxes this year. We will be getting a nice chunk of change back and man do we need it! I wish we could do something fun with it instead of paying bills. I am so sick of looking at the stack of bills on my desk that I don't even care. I will just be thrilled to see it gone!

  • Money problems suck  At least you get money back from your tax return (DH and I are both self employed so we pay), maybe you can set aside a little bit from the refund just to go out for a nice dinner before using the rest to pay bills. Wink

  • I love listening to Dave Ramsey because he has such good, common sense advice about budgeting, getting out of debt, etc.

Have you considered selling some "stuff" you have lying around the house and don't use?   Ebay is pretty easy, I understand (never tried it myself yet).

Also, I have a former insurance client of mine who donated plasma and got $250 a month (or something like that).  It's just like donating blood but apparently takes a little more time and not everyone's a candidate to do it.  But it may be worth checking out.

  • Thanks ladies. I just hate not being able to clear the bills off the desk and say "aaahhhh". We'll be fine. I am thankful we both have jobs. I know some people are in far worse situations.

  • I can totally relate. January has been an expensive month. We bought out our car lease and had to put money down. Then we had to register A at a daycare and pay registration fees. That and a bunch of other stuff that was due this month means we are super grateful to have income right now... and looking forward to a tax refund!
