Its pretty common to develop a thyroid problem during pregnancy. You can go back to normal and not take the hormones. Kinda like GD, most of the time goes back to normal. Even if it doesn't, hypothyroidism is very manageable. I have lived with it for 10+ years. It's just a small part of my daily routine to take a pill, get an extra blood stick at the doctors office.
My thyroid was borderline before I got pg - TSH around 4.5 - 5. I want to stay on medication to keep my TSH around 2, as I feel way better now than I did before (and that is not a normal thing for a pg woman to say). My doctor said it will take a few months post-partum for my body to level off, so expect to stay on monitoring and medication for a little while afterward.
When I was 13 weeks I was diagnosed with hyperthyrodism induced by pregnancy. They think mine was triggered by my h/g and throwing up every day and losing weight.
I was on meds for a month and then stopped to see if it would level out on it's own. As of now my TSH is still low, but my Free T3 and T4 are back to normal. They fully suspect that after the girls are born that it'll level out on its own.
Hope yours goes away! Even if it's just a simple medicine every day, it's still a hassle!
It depends. If you have gestational or postpartum thyroiditis, it should fix itself within a year of delivery. If you have something like Hashimoto's thyroiditis you are stuck for life.

Have they been checking your thyroid every month?
