(head's up, kid in sig)
this is my 3rd D&C, and 11th pregnancy, you'd think I'd be used to this by now... but no.
I am having HORRIBLE stomach pains 2 1/2 weeks out from my D&C at 12 weeks. The surgery itself took longer, hurt more, bled longer, cramped more... it was just much worse than the others. It was a twin pregnancy (lost the twin 4 weeks earlier) and I was stupid enough to be running around crazy post D&C.
BUT... seriously.... I'm in a LOT of pain still.
NO fever, pretty normal bowels. Some distention. Had a u/s... no cysts, a pocket of fluid in the ute that she says should NOT be causing the pain and should resolve on it's own, I am burping a lot. And now today I wanna barf. All day. Appetite is gone for the past 2 days. It feels like gut rot, or for those that have gone thru IVF, it feels like post-ER and OHSS.
I'm emotionally a mess, of course, but physically miserable. and the only thing they're going to do if I go in is say "go home and rest" or run an expensive CT scan we'll pay 20% for.
can anyone tell me this is just a normal aftershock of having a D&C after a later stage pregnancy please? or any other ideas? the only thing that knocks this pain out is 800mg advil + 2 vicodin + 2 glasses of wine.
I got a kid and a house to tend to, lol.
Re: If you've had a D&C 10+weeks or more....
I'm so sorry for your loss. I don't know if this helps, but I had a D&C at 10w4d, but the baby was measuring at 7w3d. The first couple of days I felt fine but the third day I went back to work and realized halfway through my shift that I shouldn't have. My whole body started aching, especially my lower back. I was having really uncomfortable cramps and my whole abdominal area was really achy and sore. The only thing I could do to make myself feel better physically was to rest for the next couple of days. I have a really hard time taking it easy, but that's exactly what I needed to do. You said you've been running around taking care of your family, which I understand you might not have the resources to help take that load off of you, but what you need most right now might honestly be rest. If it's at all possible, I would see if a family member or friend can come help out for a couple of days. Hope you feel better soon!

Sorry for your losses and all of your pain.
I didn't have the same experience. I had a D&C at 13 wks (baby stopped growing at 10 wks) and I had it really easy afterward, physically. I had light bleeding for about a week and that was it. No pain or anything, the 1st couple of days I took pain meds just in case and that was it.
I hope your pain goes away soon or that they can find out why it is happening so they can get you some relief.!
well If i just had a D and E at 22 weeks...and actually i was doing okay on 800 of motrin. every 8 hours and at times needed to supplement with tylenol. for the first three days i was dizzy and off balance and felt really gross bleeding was a little heavier then a period....and from then on just been getting better...then i made a mistake and carried my four year old up to bed and now i am having right lower abdominal pain...pretty sure i just strained something...i was stupid and should have called DH to carry him...If i was you and was feeling as gross as you say you are i would get the CT scan to make sure that there is not something else lingering in the belly..that just me.
hope you feel better soon .

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I want to let you know that I admire your perseverance despite the challenges you have faced. I had a D&C at 13 weeks but was measuring only 7 weeks at the time. My D&C was actually one week ago. It went very smoothly and I had minimal pain after leaving the hospital (advil for the first day). It wasn't until this past Friday that I started getting intense cramping. The same thing happened Saturday night. It was so intense that I couldn't do my normal activities and I was really concerned that something was wrong. I also got migraines both nights. I thought that maybe I was overexerting myself with my toddler (which was probably true...she has been sick almost non-stop for the last 3 weeks bringing home new colds and coughs from daycare). Anyway, Sunday morning, I started releasing large clots which continued throughout the day. I called the doctor to discuss--given the size of the clots and number of pads I was consuming (and the fact that I didn't have a fever), she determined I was ok but asked that I check back if severity of systems got worse.
It's possible that you have some tissue or clots trapped. Have you tried calling the doctor? Maybe they can confirm if 2 1/2 weeks is a reasonable time to wait for additional material to release itself. It would also be worth confirming whether they think another D&C is needed too (hopefully not...though I have heard of this being needed for some other women in some cases).
I hope you can take it easy so that you can feel better soon--though I know it may be much easier said than done when you're juggling a family along with the physical and emotional strain of what you're going through. Take care.
