joebunny

you responded to a post of mine about gh testing (thank you btw) and i wanted to tell you that my youngest sister had the hand test done too. turns out 24 years later that she's petite with a little appetite. at 3.5 yo she weighed 23 lbs. and was 36 inches tall.

i think she's 5'0" now but i'm 5'8, other sister is 5'10 and our brother is 6'2. funny how genetics work - but it can really worry a mom!

Re: joebunny

  • That is exactly my nut.  My cousin is a ped.  Her dad is 6'2" her mom is 5'9", she is 5'1".

She is 4.5 now and is doing well.  She is about 15% for height.  I am 95%!  At 2 years old, her projected height was 4'10" (there is a fairly big variation in the expected height about 2" on either side).  She seems to be moving toward the higher end, luckily.  Under 5", people have a shorter life expectancy due to accidents.  It can be hard to give birth and the rate of obesity can be higher too.

In general though, it just is what it is and not much you can do about it.  I have a friend who just had her second baby.  She is 4'10" and did OK with both her pregnancies.  She took HGH at 11 years old, which is now considered very late to take it because it is not very effective at that age..  She has a syndrome, I can't recall the name of, but it was nice to have her to talk about it with, since she lives it every day.

Good luck.  It is just a process.
