ky medicaid

i just applied for medicaid and i forgot to ask a couple questions so if anyone on here knows the answer that would be great! such as, i KNOW i qualify for it so can i go ahead a call a doc to schedule an appointment before they actually approve me and send me the card? also, how do i know which docs allow medicaid and which don't? thanks! i'm in louisville if that means anything. i know i could probably just go in and talk to the case worker about it but i really don't wanna sit in the office for hours again if i don't have to lol.

Re: ky medicaid

  • I work for acompany that is contracted by Medicaid.  You might be able to find info on the Medicaid website https://chfs.ky.gov

I would call a doctor and ask them if they accept Medicaid and then ask them if they will see you before you are approved.  I think it is up to the individual doctor whether they will see you or not, because if you for some reason don't get approved and can't pay for your visit, then they will be out the money for seeing you.

Good luck and congratulations on being pregnant.

  • You can make an appointment as long as you're approved (you don't necessarily have to have the card yet). I wouldn't do it before then. If you have an office that you know of already just call and ask if they take Passport. If you don't know of one I know that there's one off of Dutchman's Ln that takes passport. It's called Partner's in Women's Health I think...

  • Docs can usually back date or re-bill visits if your card is back dated. (Which it should be if you're approved. The office can check on the medicaid website to see if you're approved before you get your card to them.) If you know you're approved, I'd say go ahead & make your appointment. I had gone to the health department to find out if I was pregnant for sure & they gave me a list of doctors who accept it. I had to call quite a few of them on there before I found one who hadn't filled their medicaid slots for the quarter or whatever they were going by but I finally found one and ended up with a GREAT doctor!

As far as sitting in the office for hours to talk to your case worker, I'd say go up there and make an appointment to see him/her. I used to go up & sit until the last time I went. I was going to sit around but ran out of time before mine could see me. So I went to the window again & made an appointment. Granted, it was about 2 weeks later before she had an open slot, but I made it anyway. When I went for my appointment I got there a little late (still getting used to packing up a wee one to go everywhere with me) but I still got in within 20-30 min after my appointment time. Not bad compared to spending my entire day up there before!
