Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Food help!

My DD is almost 9 months old and has recently started with Gerber graduate puffs.  I think she could (and wants to) eat more "bigger people" food.  What have you started or suggest for softer (and safe) foods?  I have no idea what I should do or try.  TIA:)

Re: Food help!

  • Honestly, you could try anything cooked. Steamed carrots and potatoes and stuff like that. I was told anything soft and mashed. Try bananas! Grapes you need to peel deseed if sedded..hassle. I know things not to give..No shellfish, no hot dogs (even cut up are choking hazards) Apparent I was told they can have fish..Tilapia and tuna.. (I doubt DD would like it but they can have it!)

  • Pieces of avocado or banana.  Really soft cooked pastas or small pieces of bread work, too.  Frozen fruits that have been thawed thoroughly are also pretty soft and easy to chew.

  • DS is in love with blueberries.  I usually cut them up in half or fourths cause I'm worried about them, although I think he might be able to handle them just fine.  We also did cheese (just American cheese pieces), scrambled eggs and spaghetti noodles (just cut these to about an inch or so - although they were really had for DS to pick up).  Next, I think we'll try grahmcrackers and another fruit (I'm thinking strawberries).  I think most fruit you can cook to make softer - or use something like bananas, pears or peaches that are all pretty soft anyways.  Most of it has been a total mess, but it's been fun! =)

  • DS eats small pieces of: cheese, pasta, clementines (remove the white skin first), peaches, bananas, squash, broccoli, green beans, sweet or baked potatoes, black bean dip on rice rusks, and avocado.  I've also given him meat: chicken and beef so far.  I use the crockpot a lot so the meat gets pretty tender and juicy and then I just take some out and shred it for him.

  • We're feeding him all kinds of stuff.  Here are some things we do:

All kinds of fruits and veggies (avocado, banana, peas, carrots, rutabaga, beets, broccoli, sweet potato, spinach and more).  We started off mushing it and mixing with formula.  By 7 months we just mushed it.  Now at 8 months we are just cutting up into pea size bites.

    Smoked or baked salmon

    Whole wheat spiral pasta

Plain whole milk yogurt.  You can sprinkle with wheat germ (sooo healthy) or mix in fruit.

We're about to try tofu.  I'm going to do small cubes of firm tofu and roll in crushed graham crackers.  I'm also going to blend soft tofu with fruit and see if he likes it.
