How many diapers in a load?

We have a top loader, and yesterday I washed some KL0s (10) since I didn't know what detergent they had been washed in before, and because I wanted to sun the stains out of them.

Since 24-36 diapers is recommended for washing every 2 days, does this mean that you would do a load with up to 24 diapers in it? The 10 didn't seem to take up any space at all. 

Just curious, since I don't want to be wasting water/ not getting things clean from overfilling, whatever. (Our washer can be set to either Small load or Extra Large, which really makes me laugh.)

Oh, and do you adjust your detergent to go with it? I have RnG and 2 tbsp seems like too much for a small load...
