Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

What would you do?

First I want to state that my gestational age is up in the air due to irregularity. BFP with FRER was 12/29 and I was testing weekly (sometimes more). My first u/s last week showed sac and "something in it". Second u/s yesterday doctor could not find anything. No sac at all. HCG at first visit was 8000 and second visit was 16000. Doctor said to go ahead and schedule a D&C.

If the sac is gone, and I didn't bleed, where did it go? Doctor says she can tell my "heart is not ready for this", but I think I am just more confused than anything. I am a pretty logical person and not trying to drag this out anymore than I need to, especially since my body still thinks it's pregnant and my head knows all of this other stuff.

Is D&C better than just a natural miscarriage? I want to ttc right away. Dr. gave me the opportunity to have another u/s if I "need more convincing", but I don't want to get anymore of my hopes up if the doctor is already calling this a miscarriage.

 Any suggestions or feedback?

Re: What would you do?

  • When my doctor found no heartbeat and we were discussing what to do she leaned against a D&C. She said if possible a natural miscarriage would be better for the body especially trying to conceive again soon. D&C strips your uterus of all the lining instead of letting it discard what is no longer needed and keep the natural lining.

Personally, I think usually your own doctor that knows you knows best. However, in your case I think I might look for a second opinion. It is your body, so if you feel something is not right look into it; I had a feeling something was going wrong with my pregnancy even though there were no symptoms.

    Best of luck!
