I am now 100% positive that the only reason he STTN on Wednesday was because I asked him to. He hasn't STTN since, but we've had a big improvement in his habits the past 2 days.
On Thursday, after much discussion about how everyone (even "the boobies") need to sleep all night in their beds he slept until 4am, which is a good but not awesome night for him. But instead of crying out for me he laid in his bed and chatted with himself. He has NEVER done this before - he always calls for me when he wakes up. So I let him chit chat for 40 minutes before finally going in there (because I was afraid he wasn't going to fall back to sleep at all). Then last night he slept until 6:10am, which is fabulous for him, although only 9.5 hours of sleep total. And again, instead of trying to get me up when he woke up he laid in bed and talked to himself. I only gave him 20 minutes before going in because I hoped he'd go back to sleep for another hour (10.5 - 11 hours is his typical total sleeping time). He didn't go back to sleep, but after nursing he did go back in his bed and try to sleep again, which is all I can ask for.
Best case scenario I hope he's working up to a habit of STTN for 10 - 11 hours. But even the worst case scenario is that he knows what I want from him and is doing everything he can to meet my expectations. I might still be waking up, but he no longer expects me to come to him all hours of the night, which is FANTASTIC. I really think we've made a breakthrough and that we're on our way!
Re: Update to Ollie STTN because I asked
I've got to disagree with you. I totally understand why you'd say it, of course, but I'm nearly positive he is changing his behavior because I asked him to. His cognitive abilities are pretty amazing (now gross motor skills - that's a different story!). He knows what I am asking him to do and he's trying to change because of it. If you'd see it, you'd believe it to!
