Thoughts on Tatum

We've decided not to pursue using Layla in any shape or form. You gals really provided some truly awesome feedback, thank you so very much.

So, back to the drawing board...I have posted that my husband has quite unusual, often masculine taste for girl names. He mentioned Tatum last night and I didn't like it at first, but I'm still thinking about it. I am well aware for the potential for it to be shortened to Tate, which could pose problems (i.e. "taint"), but I am thinking I kind of like the full name itself.

I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!

I don't like it at all. I think it's the "Tate" part of it. Reminds me of tater tots.

I countered with Autumn, but he shot it down I do like what it means though..."cheerful bringer of joy". Maybe that's why it's grown on me a little. I do put merit in a name's meaning.

I really strongly dislike this name. It is not feminine in any way, and the way it sounds bothers me. I just can't picture calling a little girl, or a grown woman for that matter, Tatum.

NMS, but I don't think it's an awful name.  I second the PP who said it made her think of tater tots.

I actually like this name a lot. I think it's pretty without being too girly. Definitely a nice choice.

I strongly dislike this name. I see nothing pretty or feminine in it at all.

I don't have super strong feelings about Tatum, but it does make me think of Tatum O'Neal, who's kind of a train wreck.

I like it, I went to college with a girl named Tatum and she was very pretty and smart.  My friend is also naming her little girl Tatum.

i like it, but our last name is Ott so I fear kids would call her Tater-Tot Ott.

I'm a junior high teacher and I know of 3 Tatum's.  They are all very tomboyish so that's what I think of when I think of Tatum.

Agreed.  I think you'd definitely have to put the hammer down on the nn Tate though.
