Pedicures inducing labor?

I'm supposed to get a pedi with my Mom tomorrow which I haven't done since before I got pregnant so I'm really excited. My boyfriend is freaking out and mad that I'm going because he watched "The Doctors" and they said it induces labor. Is there truth to this?

There is a pressure point (I believe it is in the ankles) and if it is stimulated it can induce labor....but just make sure that the person doing your pedicure knows that you DONT want to go into labor yet....lol...and they should know alternate massages they can do on your feet during the pedicure.  When I worked in a salon this was a very common question, but pedicures are safe, tell your BF to calm down unless he wants to learn how to paint your toes :-D

I've been trained in prenatal massage and you really shouldn't worry.  They would have to be incredibly aggressive with the massage to stimulate those points and induce labor...and even if they were (which they won't be because the massage during a pedi is generally REALLY fluffy) there isn't any proof to back up the claims that this could happen...it's just precautionary that we don't do that with a lot of pressure.  I wouldn't worry for a second about this.

I got pedicures once a month with DS and they were great. The pressure point can cause it, but its not likely to actually happen. Go get your pedi and enjoy eery second of it.

I got them throughout this pregnancy, and my husband rubs my feet almost daily.  So far, no baby.
