? about sizing on mat. pants

I know this has probably been asked a ton, but right before I got pregnant I lost some weight and my pants were loose so I don't really know what size I wear.  I measured according to the old navy size charts but there is no way I am the size it says I should wear.  Does anyone know if I can go by the size chart or should I go bigger?  I looked at Gap too.  I won't be able to try them on cause I won't be going anywhere that has maternity clothes for over a month and by then I'll be too big to fit in my pre-prego pants.  Thanks for any input :)

  • I work PT at Destination Maternity and our advice is, go by your pre-pregnancy size. So if you were an 8 before, you're an 8 in preg clothes. If you were a Medium before, you're a medium now. Since you lost weight, I'd say go INTO a store and get measured to be safe. Then order away online! GL~!Big Smile

  • In my experience, Old Navy maternity runs a little big.  I always get one size down from my normal size.

  • I think Old Navy tends to run big, so maybe try a size smaller than your normal pants? The pair I got from Target are a size 6 and I typically wear an 8 from Express, if that's any help.

  • I just ordered some stuff from Old Navy. I am a 6-8 pre-preg size but the 8s have been a little loose. I ordered size 6 for the pants and they fit great. I've heard that Old Navy runs big, so I would not order bigger than your regular size.

  • I normally wear an 8-10, but know I wear a 6 at ON. So I ordered a 6 for their maternity jeans. They do not fit me, they are too big. I still question if I should have gone for the 4s . . . so just wanted to put that out there!

  • I just picked up some maternity jeans at old navy last weekend and I normally wear a 6 and the one pair of 6's I got were big but wearable and one pair I bought was a 2 and they fit perfectly fine. Their sizing is good for my ego but bad for online shopping.

  • I had to go down 1-2 sizes in Gap maternity jeans.  I actually tried them on at the store and then ordered online (so I could get short length).  I bought both 2 sizes smaller which fit me well now, and 1 size smaller which fits loosely now, but I'm sure will fit in the next few months (as I'm sure it won't be purely my stomach expanding).

  • I got a pair of maternity pants from ON.  I got a pair a size smaller and i still have room in them.

  • Thank you for the help :)  I think I will just order 2 different sizes and just return them if one or the other is the wrong size.  Not a cheap way to do it though :(  It sounds like they run quite a bit larger so I will try the size my measurements say I should get.

  • I'm normally firmly in the plus-size department, running about an 18W in pants (I'm fluffy =).

But Old Navy Maternity runs so big that all of the plus-size maternity clothes were HUGE on me, and I'm down to a size 14 in regular maternity, which I need to wear with a belt.  So take the sizes with a grain of salt and don't feel bad about ordering a few sizes to try on and returning the rest.   They only charge you $6 for return shipping.
