South Jersey Babies

Please help me switch doctors!

I'm 26 weeks, so I feel like I need to make the switch, ASAP.

I live in Moorestown and see Phoenix currently. They delivery in Virtua Mt. Holly. I dislike these doctors.

I've been told that Garden State OB/GYN is good, and they deliver in Virtua Voorhees.

My problem is IDK that I want to deliver in Virtua, at all. I'm going to a VBAC, and I'm looking for things like wireless monitoring, being able to walk around, etc. And from what I remember, Virtua didn't have wireless, and I was chained to my bed the entire time.

I've heard Capital Health in Trenton is a great option for VBAC's and Natural birth, but I don't know a good practice that delivers there.

So, if you have experience with either Virtua's can you tell me if they had the wireless monitoring?

And if you know a group that delivers in Capital Health, please recommend.

TIA!

  • Not sure if it's too far for you, but you might want to look into the docs that deliver at Elmer. They have wireless monitoring and 50% of the births my doc does are unmedicated. They have one of the only water birthing tubs and jacuzzi tubs in every room, which made my life soooo much better on labor day.

  • Have you thought about a birthing center? I was in the same boat as you, scheduled to deliver in mt.holly with pinelands ob/gyn and was not happy with the hospital or practice. I switch at about 22 weeks to The Birthing Center in Bryn Mawr, its a bit of a hike but i love it there and i love the prospect of birthing there!
  • I highly recommend Cherry Hill OB/Gyn. They are located on North Fellowship road in Mt. Laurel. There are 3 doctors and a midwife who deliver. I loved all of them and would have trusted all of them to deliver my baby (in fact, I was in labor so long I had all 3 doctors take care of me!)

I just delivered on 1/3 at Virtua Voorhees. The doctors and hospital staff were very supportive of my natural birth plan. Unfortunately my labor ended in an emergency c-section - my daughter was over 9 lbs, turned the wrong way, stuck on my pelvic bones and her heart rate was not responding well after being in labor for 40 + hours.

Anyway, my dr's office was always very responsive, got me in quickly, has great evening hours, and I never waited long. Here's their website: https://www.cherryhillgyn.com/home .

    Good luck and congratulations!

  • I'm seen by the doctors at Garden State and can't say enough great things about them.  See if you can set up an appointment to discuss your concerns and wants for a VBAC.  By the time you deliver the new Virtua hospital will be open and I'm told they are transferring all maternity cases to the new hospital.  I would assume with a new hospital they would be updated their equipment as well.

  • Not sure how convenient it may/may not be for you. But I see Delaware Valley OBGYN www.delvalobgyn.com they are in Lawrenceville near Princeton.

They are great and have a MW, High Risk and regular team.

Im delivering at Princeton Hospital and they have Beautifiul rooms, birthing tubs, wireless monitoring and from what I understand are very "natural friendly".

  • I saw a midwife in Delran, at Alliance OBGYN, whom I highly recommend.  They deliver at virtua mt holly. I just delivered a month ago, natural birth. They allowed me intermittent monitoring, 20 minutes on the monitor and 1 hour off. Free to walk around and do what you want.
