I'm looking at cribs, and we want a convertable one, but I've noticed that some that convert to a toddler bed don't have a guard rail (not just buy it seperately, but that they don't make one). Is this something that you need, or are you fine without one? I'd love to hear the opinion of 2nd time moms.
Re: Toddler Rail... necessary?
Our crib also didn't come with one, so we bought a $15 at Kmart that fits under the mattress and is made out of a mesh material (Summer Infant Single Bedrail). We moved to her to a toddler bed when she was about 18 months old and used it and liked it- it still made her feel she was in a crib and she wouldn't get out of bed on her own.
When we moved her to a twin bed, we also used it, but took it off shortly after to change the sheets and never put it back on and she's been sleeping without it since (2 yrs, 4 mths). She's never fallen out of bed or anything, but her stuffed animals have and if they do, she will wake up shrieking.
3 more miscarriages and finally a correct diagnosis (septate uterus) and a corrective uterine surgery later, our second blessing is here!
Our 2 year old is still in her Arms Reach PNP, but my friend didn't use one for her toddler. She just tucked the kid in with blankets. I've also seen these which I like more than the wooden ones...
