How do growth spurts work?

So how do growth spurts work? I don't remember reading anything about them other than cluster feeding. I get the impression from the boards that they also cry a lot but I can't tell if they sleep little or lots. Also when might you most likely see the 6 wk spurt if not in wk 6? Before or after? Thanks!

  • It depends on the baby. Some sleep alot, some sleep less than usual. Some eat tons, some seem to eat less for a little while. "Six weeks" is a general idea: it could occur before or after. Or you might not notice anything different at all. The twelve week spurt hit us hard but I didn't really notice anything for the earlier weeks.

Boo! Nothing is ever easy! :-P Thank you! It makes sense that all babies are different. Yet one more thingto decipher about DS.

  • Ours gets super fussy and wants to eat every hour or so and barely sleeps. She doesn't seem to eat more than her normal amount for the day she just seems to "snack" all day. We've been going trough this on and off for a week now and I really hope it gets better.
  • I think DD hit her 3 week spurt the last few days.  She has been eating a ton.  Not more often, just eating more in one sitting.  Sometimes feeding for an hour at a time.  She was also a bit more fussy and pooping a ton.  Its my first so I don't know for sure, but it was definitely a change.
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...
